Of course not, but a lot of the AIM120s are on platforms that are far easier to gain high alt and speed, only 1 of the 3 R-77-1 platforms can do the same, and as the OP doesn’t actually specify what he is flying I’m going to assume it’s the 1st SM which in general wont get the same range from the 77-1s as an AIM-120 from say an F-15E or EFT.
Now of course if the AIM-120 is being launched from a Sea Harrier FA2…

Yeah I saw, and don’t get me wrong, I do not think the 77-1 is a bad missile, in fact I think it’s the best all round missile in game, I just didn’t find it quiet as long ranged as the 120s when using it. Not that it makes a large practical difference, any shot over the 77-1s range is going to give the target plenty of time to defend no matter what missile you are using.

One plane does not equal the strongest top tier. That includes a range.

Yeah that’s often how it is, but range is always useful to pressure people into defensive positions.
My favourite missile keeps being the MICA 100%, if you had a MICA carrier with a similar radar to the SM2 it would clean up everything while never leaving the notch, although the R-77-1 still does that well enough too since R-77 variants are the 2nd most maneuverable missiles.
The MICA turns so fast and accelerates so hard off the rail while turning, that often people can’t even iron dome it at shorter ranges

Yes… having multiple good aircraft at top tier / close to top tier (US) beats having one reasonably ok aircraft at top tier (Captor-M Typhoon, realistically I cant commend on the Captor-E havent unlocked it yet but its just a better radar, still the same crap flight model)
