it has over 5X the zoom of agm65d and most planes with it have their own onboard optics or can take a targeting pod
and it is still a TV seeker
you will always have a harder time finding a target with a TV seeker compared to an IR one even if it has a hundred times more zoom
I have to say that you are right about this. With the SOLT-25 combination that is on the Su-25SM3 it is quite good but only two missiles. And in the case of the Su-30SM irl it does not have thermal imaging pod. I think the SM2 was able carry T.220 but I’m not sure.
That’s definitely an advantage for the 59.
Laser + IOG guidance is quasi-FnF as you can fire the missile in the general area of your enemy, hide and only expose yourself a few seconds before impact to lead the missile in to the target.
Also, missile has a TV seeker so most likely it’d have a ~6km target lock range.
You can make static lock on bigger distance.
not at all, if you are trying to maintain a range where you are relatively safe from AA you can absolutely not effectively use the 65d seeker because you are well within AA range before you find targets
the kh29TD and TE have a higher zoom than 65B seeker and I can normally find targets ~8km out with that so its not really an excuse
also again most planes that removing kh38mt would effect have optics onboard or can bring a thermal targeting pod
TV seekers on no matter the missiles suck
TD is basically slightly better, faster and triple explosive 65B
they should just buff TV seeking
TD is a massive improvement on 65b if you dont realize that idk what to tell you
given how poor 65 preforms id rather have a TD over a 65d because at least with that it is less likely to be intercepted and will kill if it hits instead of being 50/50 on an mbt target
i mean TD sure is better than 65B but the seeker is garbage regardless
Yeah it is. But Platan help little bit (not much).
yeah the seeker is pretty bad but at least the missile isnt as slow as a mav
and tv guidance works really well from higher altitude so it is tracking from above the target id argue that its better than IR from that kind of aspect
You can, but if you launch from 10-15km it will take a bit to reach that 6km threshold, since the missile is subsonic. Target in that time could just move out of it’s seeker.
As I said, it’s a decent missile for lower BRs on vehicles like 24M.
Yeah target will move and then you will make corrections so you will hit.
The 65B has actually quite good zoom, about 30x zoom compared to 25x of the 29s. The only inconvenience is, and honestly why I actually prefer the 65A’s (15x) sight, is that the 65B zoom is fixed and not variable like the 29s (Kh-38MT also just inherited these same zoom stats, so for those wondering, the zoom is based on something real at least).
Makes me actually kinda sad that AGM-65D’s sight fov is known, otherwise it probably would’ve gotten the 65A’s or B’s zoom, but I digress…
actually its the opposite
65B has 25x zoom
dont know how I got those mixed up but yeah, id definitively still rather have a 25X optical over the 5X thermals
That isn’t FnF anymore as you’ll have to make corrections after the missile has been launched.
If you check the missile spreadsheet, you will find the opposite to be true. I have also spend enough time charting this all out myself, so I doubt it’s wrong.
nah spreadsheet says 25 for TD and 29 for 65b
so unless thats outdated
You can make corrections only if needed. You don’t have to worry about the missile at all. You just occasionally look at the screen to see if it’s flying where you want it to while you’re flying back to the airport, for example. If it flies, you don’t worry at all. If the target has changed position, you make corrections. Simple.
