the head of a laser seeker is always a tiny FOV, this is pure copium. IIR seekers and laser seekers look nothing alike.
IIR much larger and wider;

thats not what i meant,
the thing you screenshoted in particular looks similar to the gimbal the flanker IRST uses to control Elveation
I went into a newsbank service that has text compilations of news articles from across everywhere (support your local library) and theres a brief mention of the Kh-38M family foor the T-50
Russia’s new warplane briefly seen, much talked-of at MAKS-2011 air show
BBC Monitoring International Reports

They don’t even mention IR there.
I do not know the article name for this one other than it was done by Piotr Butowski for IDR in 2014, whatever IDR is
After reading through all this I think it’s very possible that the MT variant was simply abandoned because seen as unnecessary. The Russian military doesn’t have money to waste and they often take down projects that are not considered important
Brighten up the image, sure looks like a laser seeker to me, which since its labelled as a X-38ME actually makes sense.
Is that a watch

And the front of that one looks like this:
Not like the one in the image:
how does this look anything like this
The area around the lense looks exactly nothing like the laser seeker thats in the X-38ME your purported as a 38MT

You’ve just posted the seeker from X-29T
And it looks like this mounted;
Again, nothing like this;
Maybe its a language barrier but people are telling you that from the photo provided, the seekers actual FoV (the thing behind the glass) is miniscule compared to general IR seekers that are much larger.
Reposting the literal same picture with microsoft paint “IR” text and an arrow doesnt mean anything. Its quite bothersome at this point.
Anyway can we get some info from gaijin perhaps on how they came to the conclusion that Kh38MT exists beyond a “marketing lie”?
TBF it would make sense that the KH-38 seeker is also looking downwards just like the kh-29 one
