They always model IRCCM as Seeker Shutoff or Seeker width tightening.

IR missile gameplay is infinitely more fun than Fox-3.

Eh… if the missile is fired further away than 2km, then the IOG drift is usually enough to cause it to miss. We’ve been arguing for a IOG drift reduction on the Aim-9M in the EFT thread for a while now.

Yeah. I really do think most people see these new IR missiles as a boogeyman when they’re not gonna be nearly as useful compared to a FOX-3 in most situations. They’ll absolutely have their moments, but a MICA is still gonna rock your shit 99% of the time.

They should be a step up. They should be dangerous.

A Mach 5 ASRAAM with Gatewidth and seeker shutoff is going to be hard to deal with because you wont have long to react to it. If you even see it coming.

Its not just the seeker, its the kinematics too, they will usually be faster, harder to dodge, better range, etc etc.

I think some caution does need to be applied as to where they are placed and what they are placed on first.

I would start with the top tier aircraft and work done, not the other way around.

also we’re forgetting that next gen FOX2s have uplink, you’re not going to flare that missile as long as its datalinked back to the plane and as long as that plane has a stable hard or soft lock on you, assuming its implemented correctly

Well. Only 2 have that, MICA IR and AIm-9X Blk2 (ive heard that Pyhton 5 does too, but never seen any sources confirming it)

So I think that is going to be heavily mitigated to make it not OP, like having the DL stop when the missiels gets within a certain range of the target

I can tell you for certain that neither IRIS-T nor ASRAAM have DL.

AAM-5 I cannot tell you about

but regardless, the missiles have to be dangerous. they should be a deterrent and an exclamation saying “don’t get too close to me, its in your best interest to keep this fight a FOX3 joust or you will fucking DIE if not careful”

I’m not saying they’ll be useless, but getting an IR lock while being fired on from 60km+ away by FOX-3s won’t exactly be easy. When you get into the mid-game, when the FOX-3 spam ends, it’ll be much easier, which is how I use my 9M and R-73 missiles.

A DL radar lock will help some of them, but the chances of Gaijin adding DL IR locking are slim.

Hard LOBL requirement. With or without DL.

This mitigates the HOBS performance a bit (but still +/- 90° for all bar the MICA IR which is 60° and Python 5 which is 100°)

Hard cap on lock range, like 25km, which mitigates the MICA IR and ASRAAMs range performance quite a bit.

DL is either not added at all, or stops when the missile goes “active” like it does on Fox-3s.

They wont be IIR, but instead IRCCM+, using very narrow Gatewidth and seeker shutoff (maybe also an additional IRCCM method like push-ahead?)

R-73M / R-74 will be the hardest to flare

They will be a threat, but defeatable and have limitations

T-10KUB-1 had AL-31FPs since inception as far as I’m aware.

T-10KUB-2 which was planned for the later half of the 90s would’ve gotten AL-31FM1s, which is why it’s rather sad it died then.

Then you’d be correct, after some reading they did in fact give it AL-31FPs after it had been running on AL-31Fs.

In 1998 the idea was proposed alongside a mockup, then in the beginning of 1999 the modifications were finished, which then it’d spend the next 6 years doing flight tests till the program was cancelled in 2005 due to lack of funding.
