Even the ROC AF F-5A at 10.7 is still a clubbing machine. Just over half the thrust but still a wonderful airframe if you keep speed high.

Yep, that is the issue here. Since we have no use for “permanently grounded” aircraft that technically can still fly after overloading Gs, but would be a maintenance write off Gaijin just has then Rip instead. I’m confident an F-15 could do any turn that rips the wing in War Thunder and survive, but it also probably wouldn’t fly again afterwards.

as someone who uses magic 2s on f-5s AND received all aspects, I can tell you that it’s not true. Why? Because if you’re in one of these fighters with magic 2s you’re SO DIABOLICALLY FAST that you can get within the km and shoot the missile with such extra kinetic energy it will not have time to see the flares. That’s very much how pl5b works too. And I’ve eaten them too from 1km away on f-5e while flaring burner off.

I had an F-5E decoy an Aim-9M about 30° off tail. whilst sat on reheat a few days ago with a handful of flares. he didnt even really turn just flew in a straight line. Meanwhile ive been hit by Aim-9Es in the Sea harrier with a hard viff turn and mutliple flares being dropped.
The F-5Es temp is insane. The issue is how the game doesnt model the engine exhaust and only the engine temp. Engine temp might be right, but the plume should be a few hundred degrees hotter than the engine temp

The aim9m is inconsistent. Of course if you viff while dropping flares you’re going to not just lose speed but also accumulate heat around you making the missile simply strike you. That’s how aim9e’s “seem to ignore flares” because you launch them on people moving so slowly they’re just a mass of hot air.
I agree the f-5e is cold, I have seen the f-5em tiger in person and that shit not only is deafening loud on idle, it also has an insane trail of heat haze behind the tail. It’s impossible for me to take photos of the f-5e from behind for how much heat it dumps.
Still, the f5e is easy to gun down. Once again, give it the zero treatment.
VIFFing in Harrier should turn a rear aspect shot into a side aspect shot and gives you significantly more G pull…
“Accumalate heat” is just not a real thing. Even IRL. ACTUAL Sea Harrier Tactics, is to Viff to about 30° when defending an IR missile. Just Gaijin models the harrier really really really badly.
Also Sea Harrier is Sub-Sonic. Of course its bloody slow. its not a super-sonic dogfighter like the F-5 is

The only one of these that is true is the Draken, which is definitely under tiered if it weren’t for lack of CM’s on all but the premium.
For those that don’t know, the Draken can hold a higher sustained turn than pretty much anything that isn’t a gen4+ fighter on low fuel.
-edit- idk why Mantis liked my comment cuz I proved he’s wrong about nearly everything. The Draken is still not a guaranteed win against the F-5E. It’s obviously the best airframe at the BR of 10.7

yeah, too bad it’s highest T/W values are when the plane is completely unable to nose onto targets nor have peak turn rate. Oh, also everything else at 10.7 and above has HIGHER thrust weight ratio than the f-5e in most scenarios.
