You are right, the France doesnt any leopards or F16s, but something unique.
Gaijin tries to give them leopards just for escaping some issues on leclercs, fix leclercs and no any leopards, there are much enough leopards in WT.
Same, F16s are also unnecessary, Mirages armed better missiles like IR Mica, but hmmm, everyone knows, since the Mica the Fox 3 is about to introduce, so adding IR Micas to Mirages is a very good idea than these American made ones, which is more advenced and adopted in WT today.
Otherwise, there’s a much better idea than Gaijin’s, add Holland to Germany not France so that German gets what they need like f16, AH64 Apache and even one more leoprad2A6+.

The tree also represents whatever subtrees and similar attached nations it has. “France” is much easier to fit into the UI than “France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and friends”.

Here’s another thing, we don’t know what the 2A4 will look like in model.
We can assess that the 2A6 will be the Finnish model with different camos though, so that’ll be copy-paste.
I’ll reserve my judgement on the 2A4 until I see it in-game.

I can’t see significant difference between AMX40 BR9.7 and the first Leclerc BR11.7. 2BR it’s a huge gap.
All Leclerc are 11.7, while Leopard 2, Abrams, T80, T90 are between 10.x and 11.x.

The best Leopard for France is inarguably the 2A4, which is the only one I’ll come close to accepting. We don’t need any other variant.
But I’m against it because it will still be the odd vehicle in it’s line ups. As France is for the most part, a fiercely independent for military production and procurement.
Additions for the sake of additions adds unnecessary bloat and weighs down the rest of the tech tree.
South Africa added a lot of cool and interesting vehicles, but they’re occupying an entire branch.

So be careful, I’m going to ask you an extremely tough question, in your opinion, is there more of a link between France and the Benelux or between Germany and the Benelux?
Militarily, their vehicles are of German origin and the countries collaborate with each other (a few exceptions for the plane witch are americans)
Geographically, France and Germany are both neighbors of the Benelux
Historically, although invaded by Germany during WW2, the Benelux is very close to this one

I will agree that the 2A6 isn’t necessary of the two Leopards being added.
And the reason I say two is Cockerill is very much a Belgian project, thus wasn’t going to be outside Belgium addition anyway.
I see thematic connections for either, but between the two I would pick France. Especially as Germany has a much fuller tech tree.
Swiss and Austrian stuff should go to Germany though. Spain should likely go to Italy. Ireland to UK. The only country in the general region which seems difficult to place is Poland, but ultimately probably USSR.

For tanks maybe but clearly not for plane
A lot of their Cold war Era weapon are french, Spain and Switzerland have more French equipment than the Benelux
And on top of that, we must remember that France is one of the rare “small” countries which makes a point of having its own military industry since the Second World War with very little collaboration or purchase of foreign vehicles

Completely losing Spain means losing a set of good AMX-30’s. Switzerland likewise means French equipment like the FL-20.

Origin of equipment doesn’t factor in for me; this is simply grouping countries “thematically”, and whatever they happen to use comes along for the ride.

Or how about adding a “personal” tree, where you can pick vehicles for each tier or each vehicle type from a pool of the vehicles that you already own, regardless of nation. Do some real “Commander in Chief” stuff. Have a budget . . . maybe use all those Convertible Research Points we all have laying around for that . … . say . . . that’s not a bad idea . . . lol. Anyway, would be fun & interesting to think about what you wanted to do for something like that. . … someone needs to make a suggestion for something like that . . more well thought out. This idea just came to me reading what you guys were saying about something along these lines . . .

I’m not sure why you can’t, it’s one of those things that’s just intuitively apparent and can’t be explained by some technical thing or other. Like how all Commonwealth stuff going to the UK simply “makes sense”. Or all Nordic countries into Sweden.

Someone had made a suggestion to put countries in Folder, as for vehicles, there could have been a folder including France as the main nation and a certain rank would have been required to start searching for sub-nation vehicles (a a bit like unblocking Israel), this idea is really not bad
That’s just a subtree but with added UI complexity.
In this case I suggest that we delete the Chinese tree because after all the majority of vehicles are of Russian origin and just have a different name, personally the commonwealth makes sense because it is a real gathering of countries , but the fact that the Netherlands, whose combat battalions are coupled with those of Germany, is found in France is completely beyond me
