Are you? I’ll say it twice then. Common sense says if you’re saying “near” then you are saying it is FAR closer to SIDE aspect than REAR aspect. That means it WAS fired SIDE ASPECT. 89 degrees is side aspect. 75 degrees is side aspect. 60 degrees is side aspect. Even 45 degrees, as far as an AIM-9B is concerned, is side aspect.
Now define what angle you see as near perpendicular.

45 is a bit of a stretch even for thr 9B to call side aspect. It’s more half rear aspect whoch can still work. 60 and above however is too much.

Doesn’t matter. Not how that works. Rear aspect missiles are rear aspect missiles. Disregarding all of this, you aren’t hitting an AIM-9B shot in this aspect even if it locks.
No actually even 30 degrees is usually too side aspect for a 9B to hit kinetically. 45 degrees is absolutely side aspect for a 9B
It does matter because I’ve specified us both are turning, there’s no horizontal or vertical stabilizer that will hinder the engine from being locked on by the seeker

At 1km sure. Further out it can work. Idk if we’re still in the ‘dogfght’ scenario.
Have you never fought against a Hawker Hunter? It can only turn if there’s a 3 billion knots of wind blowing the desired location
And the 9B does not turn off the rails so in your sceanrio the second it leaves the rails it loses track because the hunter left its Fov
Hunters have excellent turn rate. They don’t have good turn radius. Very different things. No hunter struggles to dodge AIM-9B.
Further out you don’t have the range to hit in the first place unless the target is going half your speed.
If your altitude is high enough and you have energy advantage. But even in regular scenarios with aproximately same speed this would work at 2+km shooting down. (We know shooting up is pointless)
Also idk what kind of missile this guy uses but it must be a magic 1 repainted and renamed to 9B because that’s not hpw any of this works
