I’ve found that against Hunters the AIM-9B can track a target at near perpendicular, and if you manage to trace a straight line from your wing to his wing the missile will most likely hit
It helps when he’s at >0.90km

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter that much, besides taking only 1 is just yet another disadvantage the vehicle is just carried by it’s missiles and ability to earn score by bombing
In what way??
That does bugger all. I had to suffer the 9B again trying to spade the mirage BA but I decided to not spade it rn.
What exactly do you mena by that?
That’s not a dogfight then. An enemy over 1km away.
than AIM-9B??? no
That’s not how that works and AIM-9B can’t do this. Most sidewinders cannot do this.
OP should share clips of him doing this cause I call BS lol
He just has a lot of skill, bro. You just wish you were as good as him.
For the full experience
If you can trace a straight line from the enemy’s wing to yours
When we’re both actively trying to kill each other? Just because at some parts of the dogfight we extend doesn’t mean it’s over
That’s not what common sense says a dogfight is when you refer to “firing a missile in a dogfight”. That’s “firing a missile at a guy flying in a straight line”
At no point I said we’re in a straight line, I specified that I was near-perpendicular to his aircraft, while we were both turning
Then you also didn’t connect the missile, nor even get to launch it. That’s now how an AIM-9B works.
I also mentioned that the Hunter has very unusually hot engines.
The AIM-9B can work like that, it’s a rear aspect fox 2 not a beam rider
This doesn’t matter.
No it can’t.
Yes, the MOST rear aspect IR missile in the game, which cannot do side aspect at all. You also can’t be turning when firing it.
Riddle me this: when did I ever say it’s a side aspect shot? I have now for the third time said it was near perpendicular. A side aspect shot is perpendicular.
And the hunter’s engine matters because the Sidewinder likes heat, and the hunter has an abundance
,eah but waht playing them or shooting them down?
What does that mean??? You can always trace a straight line between 2 points.
Yeah sure but in that case as stated previously the 9B will only hit if the enemy is stalling or has really low energy. Otherwise it’s trivial to dodge it.
Look I’ve played about 10 or so planes with the 9B (not that much I admit but still) and I can telly ou they are not that good. Extremely situational. And as also said before the Saab 105 is not a good example because most people at it’s BR spread don’t expect IR missiles.
Yeah which is practically perpendicular which menas the 9B lock is iffy at best.
Well technically you can you just need to keep the target inthe seeker fov which is kinda hard. It does nothing whastoever to help the missile kinematically though.
I don’t know, here?
Which, common sense says means closer to side aspect than rear, meaning, not possible for an AIM-9B.
Which it can’t see because you are side aspect.
You have exactly a zero (0%) percent chance of hitting an AIM-9B fired while you and the target are both turning, even at lower speeds. That is fundamentally misuse of the missile.
I know. That’s why I said it does nothing kinematically for the missile. You can do it but it’s not going to help and you’ll miss.
I’ve used the 9B enough to know how to use it most of the time. I don’t get this guy’s obsession with the missile thoigh.
