The AIM-120 'AMRAAM' - History, Design, Performance & Discussion

Fair point. Originally i was just saying that

this is factually wrong. Russia has as much stuff nerfd or incorrectly implemented as any other nation in the game, and gaijin quite often denies even most obvious proofs in regards of Russian vehicles or weapons

Thats just outright nonsense

you mean the plane that they gave a radar it doesnt use IRL that just happens to be a huge upgrade for gameplay purposes over its actual radar?
and upgraded engines that were only tested not deployed at the time it was added?

And yet it’s still missing the actual IRL capability that has evidence and proof

again that was the worst possible example you could chose

because they straight up gave it a radar that was never mounted to it and is a huge upgrade over what it should have

and engines that it arguably shouldnt have either, that are again a huge upgrade

And you are holding to it with both hands. It isn’t the only example I showed

and let me see what the initial reply was to
oh yeah

and lets see what happened when they were adding the Su-30SM2

it got a radar that it has no documentation of using
and it got engines that there was only documentation for recent testing and not service usage

so yes, it is a very good example of a russian aircraft getting upgrades without documentation or really any sources

Again, any words on my other examples? Or you gonna hold this one like a holy grail?

It has to be mechanic specific wise? Coz i can say a few that arent, Pantsir S1 addition, SM SV addition, BMPT launch (absolutely broken fot 6 months) IS-6 too, fictional KH-38MT addition (when it was added, it was facing ADATS and FlarakRads ffs), wet dream fictional battleships; can even say Obj 192 being the only modern high calibre mbt even tho NATO has its counterparts
Ah wont forget the nerfed Brimstones. Man, i am so sure if they were soviet they would be fire and forget in day 1 of launch

Stingers not having its right G limits because Igla cant pull that much too 🫪

F-14 addition (literally caused mixed matchmaker due to sheer opression), F-16 addition and removal of its IRL limiter because it was loosing to MiG-29 (subsequent giga nerf of MiG-29 as well), Rafale addition (hard meta since 2024, man i am sure if it was soviet it would bleed all of its speed in a single turn and MICA would flatspin in 95% of slow speed launches while having more drag than parachute retarded bomb), F-5C still running colder than G.91 Y, jet with literally the same engines, A6E TRAM with Skippers at 10.7, A4E with TV guided bombs at 9.3 (but its suddenly a bad thing when Yak-130 can do same thing), F-15A with IRCCM missiles at 12.7, same br as MiG-29 that only has R-60s, F-104 ruining 9.3 bracket for how many years before it was turned into a lawn dart? And even after the nerfs it still can absolutely dominate the bracket if played correctly. And mechanic specific wise fuel dumping that massively buffed some of the US early jets (casually got above 3.0 K/D in F9F-2 despite my average being around 1.7-1.8 K/D)

they added the MiG-29 at the same time the addition of the F-16 itself isnt a sign of bias.

no FBW jets have their actual limiters modeled.

i doubt this is actually intentional.

extremely slow and not FnF.

Yak-130 carries twice as many on a much more modern airframe

ignore the extremely OP R-27ER and ET though

you mean gave them parity with other jets because of a way to remove an artificial nerf mechanic?

But nerfing MiG-29 and buffing F-16 is

unintentional for how many years at this point?

at the br where nothing can counter it outside of another jet.

ignore the fact that N019 is literally the worst radar at 12.7 that can be notched by accident. And F-15A still has double the “good missiles” over MiG-29, not to mention difference in flight model, RWR and countermeasures

3.0 K/D without even using your brain past holding pitch key? Amazing parity, totally not overpowered

So it is fine for A-4E to exist at 9.7 then? Fair and balanced?

13.0 Mirage 4000 radar is arguably worse than N019 if we start trying to find which one has it worse. Not that the M4K should be higher than the F15 either way (or that the F15 should be 12.7)

I’m taking 2 R27ER over 4 AIM9M every day of the week tbf

This is what justify the BR of the Mig29 imo, although I don’t like the compression and having to face them with 12.0 or below, but this is also true of the F15

I totally agree here. We should not see FnF at a BR where not every single nation get access to SACLOS missiles to intercept them. But the A4E being OP at 9.7 doesnt justify adding the Yak 130 which is arguably better against ground targets at the same BR. Again, we come across the compression issue, as those planes would be pretty bad very quickly if they got up in BR

oh no you cant have overperforming FM anymore, and the F-16 buff isnt bias because no other fighter is actually affected by its G limiter in a historically accurate way.

cant AA just shoot it down? even then, there is other CAS than cant be dealt with without another aircraft provided the CAS player is good.

throwing a fit when US aircraft arent bogged down by an artificial 30% fuel minimum anymore lol.

no but Yak-130 is far worse

i am taking 4 9Ms + 4 7Ms over 2 ERs any day of the week, especially on F-15A. And i spaded it after Su-30 apocalypse happened.

name AA that can fire at 20km at 10.7

Typical US main, believing that they are the only ones entitled to overpefrorming FMs.

it’s called being unbalanced. If a Russian aircraft would perform the same after fuel dumping being introduced you would cry salty tears here

when did i say “the US is the only nation entitled to overperforming FMs”

can you provide FM numbers for the early jets in question compared to others to see if fuel dumping is actually OP? have you considered that others may not be making use of this mechanic, which would make it a fault on their end?

i mean shooting down the missile

A7E and Mirage 2000D for that matter (that I play a lot) can’t be dealt with anything that doesnt have more than 12km range missiles. OSA, 2S6, Roland… all of them can’t do shit against planes that can lob missiles from 10+ km away. And it’s not always possible to intercept either. It’s very easy to climb above their radar coverage and drop overhead so they won’t even know what to intercept. That’s mainly the problem with all stand off CAS capability. It’s either broken or useless in game, depending on the range of the enemy SAMs

Never played the F15 personally, but I have quite a few games with different F16 and the SU33. I might be biased towards the R27, especially with the total load out of the su33.
In general, I don’t agree with the BR of the F15. I think we are missing at least a full BR bracket just to decompress 12.0-13.3. The F15 should obviously be much higher than it is, but still lower than the SU30s.
I would rather compare the Mig29 to the F16, and in this situation, I think I’d rather take the Mig29 without fox 3 and I’d probably pick the F16 with AMRAAMS instead of the SMT

He is right that every FBW jets in game have this mechanic. Including the SU30. Now wether the actual flight model over performs or underperforms, that’s a different question - and I can’t say I’m very knowledgeable about specific jets IRL performance

tbf, I’ve never used fuel dumping and don’"t really see the point. The only few times I used it was on airframes with a pretty low speed limit for fuel dumping, so it’s more dangerous to do it than fight with more fuel.
I don’t know which plane have a higher than say Mach 0.8 limit for fuel dumping aside from the Aardvark (because you aint dogfighting in that), so maybe I’m wrong on that

The difference is that out of majority of FBW jets only F-16 has this level of instability as an airframe. Flankers are actually stable at high speed and their instability is only around 5 degrees iirc. And at the time of introduction F-16 was literally the ONLY aircraft with FBW to my knowledge.

N001 is significantly better than N019 when it comes to holding a lock. I played a lot of MiG-29 and against MiG-29 and R-27ER on that thing is nowhere near as scary, compared to a Flanker. It is still a threat to poor things that live at 12.0 and 11.7, but 12.3 aircrafts can safely deal with 2 missiles and then turbonuke a Fulcrum.

For US navy things like Panthers it is a massive buff because you loose around 50% of fuel weight

here is a comparison between 30% fuel (min fuel in game) and 15% fuel for F9F-5. With fuel consumption of a subsonic aircraft you never gonna burn trough 10 minutes of fuel (half of that 30%) in time for a dogfight. With fuel dumping you are at this weight pretty much moments after taking off

The Mirage 2000 was introduced 1 or 2 update prior If my knowledge is correct. I don’t actually remember if the FBW limit thing was already in place for the Mirage or if it was only introduced after the F16 showed very poor performance due to the 9G limit.

I agree on that, but the R27 is still capable of tracking well after the main radar loses tracks (true with all missiles, but the R27 is much faster hence deadlier even in notches as it goes further before finally untracking). The two main differentiators with the R27 that would make eme chose it over most Aim7 platforms is that it has datalink and is basically the only fox 1 that can’t be rolled within 5km head on launches. So it’s effectively a free win in any somewhat frontal engagements. You also have a massive advantage having HMD at a BR where basically everything relies on ACM or normal TWS searching to acquire a target.

Edit:

  • However I do think the Mig29 at 12.7 is overall balanced with the Mirage 2000, F16 and other 1 engine fighters at around the BR due to it’s piss poor electronics. I just personally put more emphasis on the armement rather than the rest of the equipment (even if it’s still important). I just don’t like that everything 12.7 trounced on 12.0 but get trounces by anything higher. And the F15 being the same BR as those one engine fighter

I did not even realize this was added to lower tier early jets, that makes a lot more sense now.

How stable is 2K as an airframe? Because for something like Su-30 FBW is a QOL change and a tool for TVC and supermaneuverability, while for F-16 that FBW is a sole thing standing between a pilot and enemy getting a maneuver kill.

It’s a mess, and F-15A was moved down specifically because US players couldn’t comprehend how to play it. Baz and F-15J at the time had nowhere as bad stats despite being in the same boat (15J have slightly better IRCCM missiles but in a Fox-1 and Fox-3 brackets it isn’t something that gives you a huge power boost). But honestly, my whole point was to prove that Russia does not have a preferred treatment if you look at the game as a whole and not just choice pick several brs where Russia indeed is in a better shape than other nations. And if the history of balance of WT is being brought then there would be moments of Russia being massively shafted as well.
