Hello, we’ve already discussed the tech tree of tanks and aircraft. Today we are going to talk about the ship part. I have gathered about the Thai Navy warships. which has been compiled and presented as a sub-map for everyone to read again and will be presented as follows

The concept of merging the Thai Naval sub-trees in Japan.
In the reign of King Chulalongkorn When Admiral Paribatra Sukhumbandhu, Prince of Nakhon Sawan Minister of the Royal Siamese Navy and Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon as Chief of Staff of the Royal Siamese Navy He thought of building a new warship to keep up with modern needs. Once approved, an order is placed. Two Japanese torpedo destroyers (Sua Thayanchol Class) and three torpedo boats were ordered from Japan (Subsequently, one additional torpedo boat was ordered.) . This was the first purchase of a Japanese warship by the Royal Siamese Navy.

No.2 Torpedo boats One of the torpedo boats ordered from Japan at the time.

and in the year 1935, the Royal Thai Navy began It was a major “naval maintenance program”, with the procurement of a large number of foreign and home-made warships. By having ordered a large number of warships from Japan, including Coastal Defense Ship, Torpedo Boat, Sloop Ship, Troopship, Submarine and Seaplane from Japan to use a lot. and took part in combat and maritime defense during the Battle of Koh Chang and patrolling around the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman during World War II.

After World War II, there were still many warships ordered from Japan. Until gradually being discharged during the year 1977, the last Japanese warship to be discharged was HTMS Mae Klong. which was retired in 1996 and was displayed at Phra Chulachomklao Fort until now

HTMS Maeklong Museum at Phra Chulachomklao Fort

At present, the Royal Thai Navy and Japan maintain good relations. Both the Royal Thai Navy and the Maritime Self-Defense Force have frequently exchanged visits between Thailand and Japan. And the latest time has participated in the parade in the International Fleet Review 2022.

HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej and warships from many countries at the International Fleet Review 2022 in Yokosuka, Japan

For this branch, it will be a branch that will add Thai warships that are unique ships. and has a distinctive identity Both ship armament, ship speed and the addition of ships in the Japanese tech tree to be more diverse as well.

I’d really appreciate seeing Thailand added like this, it would bring some great variety to the Japanese tree and allow some unique Japanese-built ships to be introduced as well. I would however argue that Thonburi specifically doesn’t really fit coastal. She’d be a bit odd in bluewater too, but given her considerable firepower in spite of her limited speed, I feel that she’d be much more suited to be matched with early cruisers rather than Cold War frigates

Though, I’m wondering if you’re planned to add more modern ship like the early Chao Phraya-class or the Makut Ratchakuman to the proposal? Given that both ships were pretty solid, albeit both were post-war ship that has no ties with Japan whatsoever?

First of all, I would like to thank you for your appreciation for my tech tree. I accept it with gratitude.

As for the story of the HTMS Thonburi in Blue Water Tree, I think that the HTMS Thonburi even though it has 203 mm gun, which are very large and have high destruction power, is true. But with limited speed The rate of fire is not very high. The ship’s hull displaces only 2265 tons, and in addition, open sea battles for such coastal defense ships may be too difficult to compete with other enemy ships in the bluewater.

However, the other idea you presented is an interesting one. Because of the power of the 203 mm gun and the secondary 75 mm gun, it has a high enough capability to destroy destroyers of the first rank very well. Therefore, it is an interesting idea that it should be able to be in Bluewater as well.

It is certain that besides the ships I have written about in this Tech Tree, there are other ships. that are stationed in the Navy and Marine Police, which are interesting to put in the Tech Tree, including various patrol boats speed boat attack Including various frigates as well, which HTMS Makut Ratchakuman is another interesting ship. Both installing weapons and the Seacat anti-aircraft system, which is the Thai Navy’s first anti-aircraft missile.

HTMS Makut Ratchakuman with Seacat Surface to Air Missile

However, I would like to wait for the confirmation of the anti ship missile and surface to air missile systems first. And I will offer a ship with a larger size. and more severe weapons along with Japanese ships such as the HTMS Chao Phraya, HTMS Sukhothai etc.

According to the Naval Strengthening Program in 1980, the government approved the navy to procure 3 fast attack craft (guns). { FAC(G) } The Royal thai navy then hired Cantiere Naval Breda, Italy, to build the 3 boats under the name. HTMS Chonburi, HTMS Songkhla and HTMS Phuket

Three Fast Attack Craft ships arrive in Thailand in the following order:
1. HTMS Chonburi, 2 June 1983
2. HTMS Songkhla, September 5, 1983
3.HTMS Phuket, December 12, 1983

Celebrate there ships in the following order.
1. HTMS Songkhla, 5-7 September 1983
2.HTMS Phuket, 12-13 December 1983
3. HTMS Chonburi, 11-21 April 1984

Why does the HTMS Chonburi arrive in Thailand before other FAC(G) But the ceremony was held to celebrate after the HTMS Songkhla and the HTMS Phuket. . .?

  1. HTMS Songkhla and HTMS Phuket arrive to Thailand and Port at Songkhla and Phuket Province. Then can celebrate right away. according to the prepared schedule

  2. The HTMS Chonburi arrived in Thailand on 2 June 1983 and the ceremony to receive the HTMS Chonburi was held on 8 June 1983, which was after the annual event.

  3. It is a tradition of the people of Chonburi province. that held the warship celebration ceremony at the annual event, which by the time HTMS Chonburi arrived, it was already ahead of schedule Therefore it had to be celebrated again in 1984.

For three reasons, the celebration of HTMS Chonburi was later than the celebrations of HTMS Songkhla and HTMS Phuket. But Chonburi Province joined with the Navy to organize a grand celebration of the HTMS Chonburi for 11 days and 11 nights, with appropriate ceremonies and enormous entertainment. It is a particularly great event. Souvenirs have been created for the celebration of the HTMS Chonburi as evidence of many historical things.

Of course, in the Thai Navy, besides building ships in the country. and ordering the construction of ships in a specific style for the Thai Navy Still have orders and military assistance from abroad as well. Of course, I would like those ships to be available in the country of origin first. Then consider adding it to this line of research later. Or it can come up at the same time in each update.
