should i get a T80UD and a 2S38 to pair with my T80 U E1 for top teir? because it’s kinda painful not having anything to properly pair with it… a MI 8 TV does not do it.
2S38 yeah, it can work, but not UD. The lack of proper reverse gear is a problem since at 11.7 you cannot rely on your armor as you would against 10.7 or downtier.
research the squadron T-80UK instead, or get the serian maidens maria pack.

Id say it does, I run the premium lineup of TUMRS, 2S38 and UD, but I have yet to play UD properly. Teams are headache inducing, but you can make it work. You have to think about how you play it, since it cant reverse out of bad situations, so mistakes are severely punished.

Consider that if you already have 80U-E1, UD is waste of money for you, unless you wanna play 10.3 exclusively that is.
If money isnt issue for you, instead think about the Senrai maidens Maria pack, its literally another premium T-80UE-1 with minor cosmetic changes and custom camo you dont have to use. And, you can later add the squadron T-80UK to your lineup, as well as the TT tanks.

It can work for top tier, if you know what you are doing and even then it’s not great, otherwise you will just be in pain.

That’s untrue, I’ve been playing the UD/DU1 (effectively a UD with thermals) ever since it released almost exclusively at top tier and have been doing fine, the turret is incredibly strong and the upper front plate is also pretty durable. The survivability of the vehicle when compared to the Arietes or the 99A is far superior and the mobility is nice.
The 2S38 on the other hand struggles at top tier and especially when you’re fighting MBTs head-on, in a flank it’s pretty good but that’s something which isn’t good to rely on.
For 10.3 the standard UD is a menace
The reverse speed can be mitigated by good positioning, I’ve rarely had issues with its poor reverse speed - newer players may struggle with it though.
Im just pointing out that against threats such as M1A2 and Leopard 2A7V the armor will be less reliable.
I absolutely agree with you here, but as you yourself pointed out - thats not something new players usually have mastered.

I’d highly recommend the T-80UD, not as a lineup for your UE-1 but as a vehicle to play with at 10.3, the vehicle is getting a reload buff alongside other T-80s and if this thing doesn’t move up, it’ll be a genuine monster. The T-80UD/DU1 which sits at 10.7 is already good even though it trades a higher BR for thermals, the lacking of thermals for a better BR environment is an advantage I’d absolutely take.
The UD itself is also usable at all BRs, it takes time to adjust to its unique playstyle (unique when compared to the other T-80s at least) but it will serve as a decent/good backup vehicle if you must.
Those are like the exceptions, and even then I’ve not have had much of a issue facing M829A1 and DM53, the armour itself is pretty trolly but of course not 100% reliable (you should never 100% rely on armour) - I’d take the UD over the UK simply because of the premium bonuses, that’s unless the OP already has the UK unlocked and is willing to put a talisman on it.
I honestly think some premiums should be restricted to players of certain levels (like the UE-1 being restricted to level 50 players at the minimum), the issue of low level players purchasing premiums isn’t a issue with the vehicle but the player base at its core.
I’d personally not buy anything anyways if I was the OP, he would be better off investing that money in another tech tree, I usually only buy one high rank premium per tech tree as a rule of thumb

Yeah because the T-80UD and DU1 both don’t have a strong turret, being able to stop DM53 is no laughing matter, the M1A2 itself only has 680mm of RHA equivalency. The upper front plate ranges from 520mm and upwards of 580mm, the Challenger 2 has inferior overall protection when compared to both the UD and DU1 (both are 10.3 and 10.7 tanks as well btw lmao).
No, that’s quite LITERALLY how it works, positioning yourself so that you don’t have to reverse far, positioning yourself so you’re in a defendable position, and positioning yourself so teammates can assist you.

So we are ignoring the turret roof which is huge weakspot on the T-80s, allowing people cresting hills to instasnipe their breach, or crew, if hull-down.
T-80UD UFP is clicked on by top tier rounds at a considerable distance, which does not qualify it for good armor.

Avoid getting 2S38 as a sole vehicle, it can’t do as much as MBTs in matches.

Oh God forbid a vehicle has a weakness, do you expect a vehicle to be completely immune hull down? The Abrams has its turret neck, the Leopard 2 has its lower mantlet, and the T-72s and T-80s have their roof.
The T-80s have a more favourable weakspot when compared to the other top tier MBTs in-game excluding the Leopard 2s, but this isn’t enough for you lmao.
The bad upper front plate protection in question, the T-80UD and DU1 really do have poor UFP protection!
I probably have a more of a say than you do, as I’ve definitely have played more T-80UD matches at top tier than you have

yeah… i’ve got 9.7K GE to spend and thats about it… ima spend some when the 2A4M is on sale because i have almost reseached the 2PL and need sm to go with it
