It’s not the best proof, but if North Korea has a functional APS that looks very similar to Afghanit, I’m sure actual Afghanit works.
Some how a country that arguably has been developing active protection systems longer than anyone else wont have a functioning APS on their newest tank, makes loads of sense.
For real. Some people are letting their views on Russia politically just completely cloud their sense of reality (and this isn’t me taking an opposite stance either). Russia has been able to develop a hard-kill APS. So have China, Israel, South Africa (Sweden), South Korea, and Ukraine! This isn’t exactly the most groundbreaking development. And especially when, as you say, the first APS was Soviet.
There are plenty of issues with the T-14 Armata but I don’t think the APS is one of them.
i mean, gajin seems to believe no western nation seems to have been able to develop ERA that can defeat kinetic rounds as well
I fail to see how this relates to a discussion about Russia’s APS, but Gaijin is not entirely wrong here. Russian (and Chinese) ERA places a higher focus on KE protection. Western ERA doesn’t. Russian ERA is an integral part of pretty much every design, unlike Western ERA which is typically additional protection on e.g. urban fighting kits to protect against light anti-tank weapons (CE protection), not other tanks.
This doesn’t mean their implementation is perfect in game (Challenger 2 being a great example) but ARAT or Blazer or whatever are not designed to protect against high calibre APFSDS rounds. Relikt and Kontakt-5 are though.
no its more like, i dont doubt that it exists and works i just doubt of its actual capacities, its actual precision and complete overall capacity under different enviroments and targets
Western ERA its separated into 2 categories, aka the Chemical focused one and the Kinetic focues altough there is a few that fight both, like clara ERA wich acts both as a cushion for any incomming kinetic round aswell as a main factor for defeating Chemical altough its way to protect against kinetic its rather unconventional, but there is also quite a few ERA like EODS option wich protects both against chemical and kinetic too more similar to chinese ERA than anything.
Of course, not trying to say that there aren’t any western ERA designs capable of reaching high KE protection, rather that most aren’t, especially the ones in-game (ARAT, ROMOR-A, Dorchester 2F, Brenus, etc.)
i mean those were designed on the purpose of defeating a lot of Chemical and well they do that very well for their small size, some are quite unique like CLARA ERA not protecting against high caliber kinetic projectiles and only small calibers like 30 40 or 57 due to the way it works, by just reacting to heat warheads and serving as cushion for kinetic projectiles
The russians love chest-thumping their equipment, if they had an actual working system they would make a feature-length movie showing it, making it highly unlikely they got it to work.
So, Russia can’t make it work, but North Korea with likely Russian assistance (or alternatively designs stolen from Russia) can? ‘They haven’t proudly shown it off so it must be a failure’ isn’t a very good analysis.
More likely with chinese help since they are closer, and the chinese have outpaced the russians when it comes to technology in almost every single field, so it’s completely possible that the norks figured it out before the russians.
North Korea is definitely not closer to China than they are to Russia. Some would assume they are but upon closer analysis they aren’t, but they are great allies.
It’s just a bunch of rage posting lol
Didn’t know being unsure if a system works or not after getting a picture which shows nothing and “other people said it does” as definitive proof for it is called rageposing now but what do I know. If anything you pushing people away with your inability to prove what you claim and then getting rightfully more sceptical is what enables your so called “rageposting”.
I don’t really think my inability to inhabit Russian state secrets will push people away. This is a brand new vehicle still undergoing trials, the system wouldn’t be on the vehicle if they didn’t intend for it to work, some individuals seem to think so (not my problem)
Excuse me but who the hell doesn’t? It’s called marketing, and if I understand correctly, the Pentagon spends millions on movies and video games to sell American weapons. If you have questions about whether it works, take a look at whos the largest exporter of military equipment.
Then don’t make a claim that you can’t prove. Afganit could very much be a fully fledged system, but nobody here could ever know if it is or not and what it’s paramiters are and should as such not make any claims about it’s abilities. You claimed that “it exists and people should definitely find a way to cope with it” without being able to prove it, which is the entire reason I even jumped into this thread. And yes manufacturers do sometimes place systems on a vehicle even if they don’t intend for them to work, like how the Chally 2 Streetfighter has mockup ATGMs as to visualize what they could do given more time and money. Afganit could very well be in the exact same boat for all we know since we have no proof of it working.
Where did I make a claim?
There’s images of it on a testing ground which is obviously undergoing testing of its active protection system hence the barrier to block incoming projectiles in case of failure in front of the vehicle and black residue around the vehicle from projectile blasts.
Or you can go down the denial route and believe that they just planted that stuff around the vehicle it made it look like that’s what they’re doing. Your call, makes no difference.
I swear to god if it has the SLA engine im going to hunt down Lazerpig myself
It won’t. The engine just has the same style, completely different engine.
