With Kinetic shots?
I would love to see supermodern tanks fight each other with ol classy HEs tbh xD
You will find someone do it I bring he/heat for lighter vechicles cuz apfsds does nothing
Playing 6 to 8 rank China or USSR, i also bring some HEs as they work good on shooting roofs of camping tanks, tho main shot there is still kinetic one.
But i`d love to see top tier tanks that CANT pen each other in front so they shoot HEs)
Cleaned up the thread. Keep it on topic about the vehicle, this will be the sole warning.
We got news today regarding the base armor of the tank.
As we already knew, the turret armor is rather thin. Doubtful it can even withstand autocannon fire, but not imposible. I´ve heard some versions of it being made out of titanium but noting concrete. Some of the sections appear to be bolt-on extra metal plates. Nevertheless, it also confirms a rather thick composite/NxRA/ERA on the roof.
Now, more interesting is that we have for the first time a clean view of the naked hull.
The way the iddler wheels are mounted is very unique, different from the Obj 187-type layout that was suggested from previous materials. Now, this allows to estimate with precision where the base armor ends in the front, leaving some room for eyeballing as for how back it extends (yes, the line I´m using I got it from interior pictures, which aren´t perfect).
Using the published figure for width (3820 including side modules) we get the following:
Yes, we can maybe stretch it back a little bit more
In any case, we are talking about 600-650mm LOS which is comparable to typical thickness of soviet turret modules when struck from 30 deg. Does this tells us anything regarding effectiveness? Not much. Weight efficiency is a greater concern than phyisical thickness regarding tank armor design. In other words, the tank can afford a very high volume efficiency at the cost of a low weight efficiency because this is the one single piece of heavy armor present in the tank. We also know that the base armor was especially created for T-14 (no clue if its NERA or NxRA), its not using T-72/90 “reflective plates”. So, we can safely estimate a minimum armor equivalent to T-90A´s (600mm KE) and for sure can assume even higher performance, 700mm KE is IMO a very safe speculation.
i mean the best hull chassis wont do anything,
Even more so with the now modelled autoloader modules etc.
That turret looks like Heat FS could already have a field day with it and explode the whole tank from the inside
Heres the tricky thing with T-14 in WT. As long as the crew survives, (and it will be very difficult if not impossible to kill from the front) it can pop smoke, reverse up to 85 km/h and repair.
can only happen so often, besides that u only got 2 fire extinguishers, you could very well still explode the ammo and set the turret on fire. That is all it needs to kill a tank
If the active protection system is anything to go by I don’t think heat will be much of a issue.
u think like gajin models APS effectively, just look at KF41 APS
I think they could if they wanted to, the KF-41 is the only one messed up.
besides that, heat fs was an exageration from me. While it has increased chances , the apfsds rounds can put the tank on fire as well depending on what gets hit
APFSDS should be intercepted with APS but there are lot of parameters to play around for balance. For example, setting a minimum effective range for APS.
again, the same is the case for the KF41 APS and its not working
We still don’t know for sure which transmission the Armata uses. The best guesstimates are an improved version of what the Object 187 tanks were using. Which only had 2 reverse gears.
Thats because its not a real APS its more of a hybrid.
It should activate nonetheless whenever a threat enters its sensor FOV.
All credible accounts report 8 gears forwards and backwards. Gur Khan even reported it being electro mechanical which would explain why it can have that many shifts (all 8 shifts are reversible). But true, info on the transmission is the most scant compared to the engine and other components.
you have no clue have you?
It should but it does not. Plus how would a vehicle with 30+ APS charges be balanced?
