Swedish 40mm Gun Carriers are The worst out of all 40mm Gun carriers

Very short explanation:
The modification’s goes Stock mixed belt → “HE” belt → “AP” / SAP belt, so progressing through the line changes how the gun performs against tanks and aircraft.

Sweden only has Frankenbelts™

All nations get these “Pure” HE/AP autocannon belts, including similar-performing guns like the US/German/Soviet 37mm (even Soviet 25mm AA guns.) Sweden doesn’t. Swedish 40mm vehicles are stuck with mixed, mislabeled belts that ruin AA consistency and limit usability. Vehicles like the Lvkv 42 suffer especially due to limited ammo, making these bad belts a major handicap.

Why is Sweden the only exception to this? Its not like specifically 40mm Swedish HE and AP rounds are superior, And you can just adjust the SAP-HE belt if its too strong. But why this-?

Needed Fixes

The best way to fix the current state of the Swedish 40mm Gun Carriers is to:

Fix the belt layout so it matches other nations Ease of use and reliability, as is only fair:

Belts should look like this:

Stock belt:

AP / HE / AP / HE

AP belt:

AP / AP / AP / AP

AA belt:

HE / HE / HE / HE

SAP-HE Belt:

SAP-HE / AP / SAP-HE / AP
or Just
SAP-HE / SAP-HE / SAP-HE / SAP-HE

Fix The Incorrect ammunition for the 40mm Lvakan 48 (40mm Bofors L/70)

Ammunition choices should look like this:

Lvkv 42 Ammo values should be changed:
Remove slhpgr m/43
Remove slsgr m/36C

The Lvakan 48 would only use these munitions in training for cheaper costs due to less , so having them be the main rounds is innacurate to war thunder.

Add “slsgr m/484”
Round Mass: 0,983kg
Velocity: 980 - 1005~ m/s
HE charge: 0,115kg Hexotonal (RDX)

VEAK 40 Ammo values should be changed:
Remove slhpgr m/43
Remove slsgr m/36C

No documented proof that Lvakan 48s used Earlier ammunition at this time.

Add “slsgr m/484”
Round Mass: 0,930kg
Velocity: 1000 - 1005~ m/s
HE charge: 0,115kg Hexotonal (RDX)

Add “Slpprj m/??”
Round Mass: 0,977kg
Velocity: 1005 - 1025~ m/s
About Same performance as the Leopard 40/70 or AMX-13 DCA 40, AP-T

Add Slpprj m/49 (APDS-T (24mm Core) )
Round Mass: 0,705kg
Velocity: 1100 - 1200~ m/s
120mm~ // 100m // 90° Angle

Greatly Reduce // Remove muzzle flash present on the 40mm - 20mm Guns With a Muzzle Hider

  • 20 mm Oerlikon 204 GK
  • 20 mm GAI C01
  • 2 cm Flak 38
  • 20 mm Scotti-IF 20/70 mod.41
  • 23 mm AZP-23
  • 3.7 cm Flak 36/37
  • 37 mm M1939 (61-K)
  • 40 mm Bofors
    • (Includes: 40mm Automatic Gun M2, Lvakan m/36, M266 Automatic cannon, Lvakan m/48, 40 mm Mle51 T1)
  • 57 mm Bofors L/70

All these changes would Bring the Swedish 40mm Guns to the same capability as the others in-game. And reducing the muzzle flash issue for all 40mm / 37mm / 20mm Guns would help SPAA all around with both targeting in 3rd person and to reduce visability to enemy planes.

Interesting, so it looks like the Lvkv 42 in game is using the wrong ammunition as the belts it were given was for the older L/60 and not the equipped L/70 gun. And the Lvkv 42 doesn’t even use belts but hoppers so the crew can load a specific order of belts based on their mission. So I don’t see a problem with them getting a more ap felt hopper if they were facing ground targets. Problem is this is a 4.7 vehicle from a small nation playerbase. It will be hard to gain traction for Gaijin to fix this since they stated they’re shifting priority from wwii to modern era vehicles. Seems like the Lvkv 42 is a case of Gaijin not doing enough research.

I’m against autocannons having armor piercing rounds as I think SPAA should purely be given HE rounds. But Gaijin is very inconsistent with SPAA as we saw the falcon getting ap belts removed but Gepards and the likes get to keep theirs. If it’s a historicaly accuracy issue, then yeah those belts should be fixed.

Considering i made a Bug report on the Outrageously big muzzle flash on all 40mm Guns and they have yet to fix that even when its modern vehicles i dont think they pay much attention to fixing any issues adressing the 40mm as a whole

Sadly i think they have just abandonded the 40mm Bofors for new ventures

Sweden Does not Really Get a lot of attention Recently, as a swedish main, I prefer some Equality as other nations Such As USA, USSR, or even Israel That got Some Of its Vehicles Loadout Modification Properly Modeled, Which Dont Let us in alot of Options, Also Speaking Historically, the tank Crew In Spaa Were able to change the Bullet Types In every Belts e.g:

  • AP → HE → AP
    Into:
  • AP → AP → AP

Which Its Really gives Some Freedom In changing Belts Arrangement For some specific Scenarios.

Well Personally I would like to add In-game Such a mechanic where We able to change the Arrangement Of Ammunition In ever Belts ( Costume Belts Loadout Or Similar ).

Also The lvkv 42 Had APDS-T Belts in real life, while i understand it may effect the vehicle balance ( Even tho it can face Kv2`s ) , but it will be a nice addition, Here is what i found:

  • slpprj m/49: Penetration ~110–120 mm, Full belt or mixed.

  • Total Ammunition Capacity: 104 rounds ( Not sure but its approximate ).

  • Belt Capacity: 8 rounds per belt.

While i am not sure if This belt Entered Service In the Lvkv 42, Or its been tested, But From What i read its been made but the project was cancelled. my question is, WHEN GAIJIN?

It is funny to think that sweden is litterarly the only ones stuck with this wierd belt layout… All other comparable vehicles have Pure AP and HE, Sweden was implimented with this belt that makes targeting both aircraft and tanks very inconsistent

Yup, Its actually annoying, since Even france Have a better Belt loadout On the AMX 13 DCA, Which make Sweden Place in war thunder kind of behind the door if we speak about small details and Its Vehicle Addition or historical Presence…

The belts arent great against aircraft, nor against tanks. To put it lightly its not effective against particularly anything unless you only use the SAP-HE, but that belt cant pen everything, so you need to take the Stock belt aswell, but even then you dont only have only AP so your damage output is half of what it should be.
