nope, thats like saying irbis has less range than zaslon m on mig31, but irl they exhibit virtually the same range, despite the zaslon having more than double the antenna area and a lot more power
same goes for bars vs irbis

Much older generation PESA.
This is a Russian first generation AESA, likely slightly worse than Irbis
irbis is a pesa hybrid
byelka was literally taken over a pesa project which turned out to be irbis…
For the felon
Still a first generation AESA, while Irbis is much more mature technology.
Byelka still better in some ways but range can still be higher on IRBIS
First things first, who is the one to decide the generations here?
How many previous fighter AESA has Russia fielded?
none, but that really isnt the point of generation in this context
we wont be calling apg85 gen67 aesa
nor would we call F-CK 1 a generation 1 jet just because its the first designed taiwanese fighter jet
Very distinct from a fighter AESA radar, some eurocanards had AESA antennas but still took them years to get an actual radar
It’s gen 4 AESA.
It’s technology advancement and maturity, TRM on byelka maybe equal to those on APG-63v2 at best
still very unfortunate designation
like who signed of on that
If we go that way, we can say the f15c is a first gen aesa while the f22 is a second gen while the EX is the seventh gen.
and who decided that
i mean it isnt the best but thats just bs right there
That’s not how it works and you know it, it’s about the radars themselves not the jets they’re attached to.
It’s their first time making a fighter AESA radar, their electronics are also far less advanced, so probably not far off
General consensus by analysts, first gen would be your APG-63v2 and J/APG-1, then APG-77/79 for gen 2, APG-81 for gen 3, and now APG-79v4 and APG-85 for 4th gen AESA
and that is just a assumption
same as saying F-CK 1 is a 1st gen fighter…
radar generations simply doesnt have a definition, atleast the raytheon or lockheed ones to public like us
I might have read your wrong but this is how I understood you and if I am wrong, feel free to explain it to me.
you have to look at the radars themselves when describing generations, for example APG-63v2 is first gen, production APG-77 would be 2nd gen even though its from around the same time as APG-63v2 since it is known to be significantly better. APG-81 would be gen 3, APG-85 gen 4
I’ma be honest I have 0 knowledge on these radar, I still don’t see the difference except the 1st gen are mostly hybrid with the mechanical disk being replaced. While second gen being based on gan
not really, its some 3rd and most 4th generation fighter AESA that have GaN.
another thing with Byelka is it uses planar slotted array vs flared notch array, which is the gold standard for fighter AESA radars
