But at the same time, the missile was supposedly urgently needed, so they developed it as a temporary stopgap solution… and then waited another 4 years anyway.
And simultaneously they also decided to start developing an entirely new missile.

Ah, now I get it. So a modified N001 radar could use the export variant, but somehow couldn’t use the upgraded domestic variant for Russia’s own air force - which is why they had to wait 4 years for a completely new aircraft to appear.

i can give you only speculations that N001VEP or whatever version is installed on Su-27SM3 can use R-77-1s. Other than that - nothing
