Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Not contradicting, just saying cause some people like to include SU34 into discussion which has nothing to do about bein fighter.

Well, Su-30SM is not a fighter as well, neither is F-2A technically. They all are multirole aircrafts. And F-15E is a strike fighter, should we also exclude that thing?

Should be, compressor on AL-41F1 is 932mm vs 905mm on AL-31F.

Yeah, it’s pretty visible from a front view, other than being slightly more far apart.

Depends on variant of al-41f1, some had bigger diameter, some just increased thrust. The one on su-35 S specifically has a bigger diameter though

Al-31f is supposed to have a decent amount more channel loss than it does currently, lemme see if I can find the installed thrust losses chart for it. Doesn’t really matter though de to general drag of the plane at high AOA

Installed data for al31f.
As you can see stand is quite a decent bit better than installed thrust

Here is more readable version from bug report about 31FP new engine mode

Are you sure that’s al31fp emergency mode? Looks like normal al31f

No, I mean I took it from bug report about «Раскрутка» mode that was accepted a month ago. It is a regular mode AL-31FP chart

According to the manual «Раскрутка» is used reach max speed faster.

Is there a list of the current FM+engine inaccuracies of the Flankers in WT? Don’t wanna get into 3D model errors cuz the 30SM still has blatant mistakes

I don’t think that there are any big open reports that would affect the flight model of the flanker
The closest thing would probably be a report for the su30 that the TVC should be able to be turned off

And then there are the following things that are issues with the Flankers fm:

  • Underperforming at low speeds and overperforming at high speeds
  • weird asymmetricly stall behavior during symmetric manouvers
  • plane completly locking up post stall

Those are a few issues/ oddities with the FM of the top of my head

No word on the Oswald number, then?

IIRC that report was closed down, the response was not to use datamine numbers

That dosent really help in warthunder due to how they use the Oswald number in the game

Gaijin uses it to shift the whole sep curves up or down so basically the same thing that happens if you bring more or less payload

But Irl it correlates the lift and drag coefficients if I remember correctly

  1. You did not specify
  2. The Su-34 is a fighter-bomber. It can still be used in the air to air role, so its very much still relevant

Idk how many times I have to say this, I like the Rafale, I do not like any vehicle being massively overtuned relative to the game around them, and I certainly dont like the significant amount of favouritism the Rafale has been receiving since its been added, particularly in the context of it already being much better than everything else in-game.

Pretty sure “4th best radar in-game” and “BARS is bad” aren’t the same thing, but here, I’ll elaborate:

Those are the current values for most relevant top tier radars scan patterns and associated values. In terms of range, angle of half sensitivity, etc… RBE2-AA and N011M are pretty similar, and both are more than good enough for the current maps and weapons.

TL;DR for the below comparison: RBE2-AA in-game is effectively the equivalent of having ~4 N011M working simultaneously, and in unison.

In-depth comparison:

Notable features of the N011M compared to competitors:

  • Scan volumes range from 100-600 deg^2 (from worst among all top tier radars to second best among mech scan radars)
  • Scan elevations range from 4-7.5 deg (the worst scan elevations of all top tier radars)
  • Scan rate and volumetric scan rate increase with scan zone size (probs shouldnt do this, but no real way to bug report it)
  • Scan rate and volumetric scan rate ranges from top 3 to best among all radars
  • Update rate is best among radars (though the difference between the ESA’s update rates are probably irrelevant for game purposes)

Now lets compare it to the RBE2-AA:
Narrow scans:

  • 25.4% the RBE2’s elevation coverage (bad)
  • 21.2% the RBE2’s scan volume (bad)
  • 23.5% the RBE2’s scan time (good, but largely rendered irrelevant by the scan volume advantage of the RBE2-AA and how ESA’s work in-game)

Medium scans:

  • 42.3% the RBE2’s elevation coverage (bad)
  • 27.2% the RBE2’s scan volume (bad)
  • 27.8% the RBE2’s scan time (good, but largely rendered irrelevant by the scan volume advantage of the RBE2-AA and how ESA’s work in-game)

Wide scans:

  • 23.8% the RBE2’s elevation coverage (bad)
  • 27.2% the RBE2’s scan volume (bad)
  • 18.9% the RBE2’s scan time (good, but largely rendered irrelevant by the scan volume advantage of the RBE2-AA and how ESA’s work in-game)

Overall, the RBE2-AA blows BARS out of the water in actually finding and tracking targets in any mode, while the BARS completes its scans faster, which is an advantage largely mitigated by the ability of ESAs to track targets outside of their current scan zones once picked up, which places an emphasis on picking up as many targets as possible as early as possible, and then maintaining relevant targets withing radar gimbal limits.

The scan speed advantage of BARS over RBE2-AA in-game is only relevant in the hyper niche scenario of you are getting attacked from a target outside your radars current gimbal limits, and can see the target so as to accurately point your radar on them, while them ALSO being outside your current ACM range.

So, to reiterate, much like in all other aspects of top tier gameplay, theres every other jet in-game, and then there’s gaijins favourite child (the Rafale) which is so far beyond all other jets in capabilities its not even really a comparison anymore. The RBE2-AA makes all other radars in-game look like jokes, and as I stated before, you are massively downplaying how much better it is than everything else.

Its not that the BARS is bad, its a good radar when compared to all other radars, its just straight up a bad joke to compare any radar to the RBE2-AA and pretend any of them come close to how good it is.

Really nice

Finally put to bed that grid fins were never a good idea.
