Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

my mind is too brain rotted from looking at su-57 stuff for too long

Actually according to pilot testaments this could go in both way.

Now granted new FBW system and thrust vectoring engines gave Su-37 incredible capabilities and bein able to point its nose much faster than other models but also caused even more energy bleeding and if you missed your shot you will become even more sitting duck in the air.

Basically double edge sword in this case.

Su-37 was flown by whole, grand total, of 2 pilots. And i think only Frolov did full tests of FBW system with all the fancy tricks. And i am talking not just in terms of pure maneuverability, but also in terms of pilot convenience. Su-27M featured analogue FBW, Su-37 was the first one with fully digital system that also allowed to do advanced maneuvers in fully automatic mode.

Indeed and return those excessive maneuvers caused immense amount of stress on airframe and led to the famous crash after years of testing the limits.

Su-37 was a promising prototype until the crash happened tho many information that has been learned through excessive testings used on later models i beliieve.

there was only one later model (712) and it was actually 710 (the one before it) that flew the most as it had both su-35s and su-57 engines, and was actually still flying even as little as 10 years ago.
the russians left most su-27m air frames to rot

Su-30SM used quite a lot of data from Su-37. I think current flankers use FBW that’s an evolution of the one tested on Su-37.

Not surprising tbh, this airframe was never designed for this bullshit mode maneuverability. The fact that it survived for so long is pretty much a testament of Sukhoi design bureau skill.

Most were given to Russian Knights, but literally all of them had different cockpit layout and avionics suite so they were pretty much useless for airshows. And would be even more useless for military.
Add to that no spare parts, only minimal knowledge of the airframe capabilities and it’s pretty obvious why they were never used.

gotta say they do look good in that camo at least

Exactly, it was never supposed to be used like that yet Terminator managed to survive for such a long time.

Su-27M would be such an interesing aircraft to use. You are pretty much Su-27SM but you trade engines (and weight) for a radar that allows you to see stuff and amazing gimbal limits. Combination of R-27ER and R-77 would be very good with this kit, especially at 13.7

Wouldnt be the case for LL )))))))

Would be 14.0 with the better radar and engine, and 2 extra pylon too if i am not mistaken

it would definitely be at at least 14.0.
14 missile loadout with 10 fox 3s and 4 r-73s is not 13.7 lol
especially if it gets a maws

It has maws too?

yeah you can see the extra pylon in this pic

maybe, the rearwards radar maws was never installed IRL so I don’t think it would’ve gotten it, but it was an option for export customers if they bought the plane (none did)

It still would be one of the best 14.0s without it

Honestly with decompressions, playing well capable fox 3 airframed would be fun without being uptiered to top tier br

So 12 r77 and 2 r73?

Where did you find 2 more missiles? I know gaijin loves to slap twin launchers on every Flanker known to man, but they didn’t for Su-30MK so i don’t think this should be done for 27M either. And this is pretty much gonna be same loadout as 27SM but a bit more customisable because you don’t have to commit ot twin launchers for missile count.

assuming giving it twin launchers cause they always do for russian fox 3 planes in the russian tech tree (not export ones)
