Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Yeah I know, I was taking into account the numbers we have with the AL-31FP of the su30sm

Which is pretty much listed as 12500 almost on every engine booklet I saw

Technically, but WT Su-30SM has the “spooling mode” implemented where AL-31FP gets 5% thrust increase above mach 0.8

AL-31FP has a increased thrust mode that brings it up by a twinge, not sure if gaijin modeled it as on all the time or if certain conditions are met though.

What GitGood said basically.

i think they properly implemented speed requirenment, but they did not give it a time restriction because it is not limited by hardware but instead by manual.

Still, jump to AL-41F-1S would be substantial, even if Su-35S is 19tons of empty weight

Just imagine a world where Su-33 got it’s proposed AL-31FM-1s… Truly could’ve been a time to be alive.

Or it’s proposed radar… would be eating good

Yeah right, kinda forgot it went from 11600 to 12150-ish, I wonder what the value of installed thrust for the AL-41 will be on the statcard.

I mean the su30 engine mode did make a noticeable difference, so the Su35 with a 200kg weight increase should be looking good in performance.

Proposed radar? Never heard of anything about that? All I’ve heard of radar related is intergration of Kh-41 onto N001K.

I don’t think I’d exactly call that “proposed” since it’s more of a wishful offer by a radar company…

Plus Su-33 with defacto N010 would be pretty silly but if I want that then I’d just ask for T-10KUB-1, the true N010 demon…

Fair

Flanker is literally an epitome of a thing that is fighting universe itself to exist. First version was bad - completely redesigned, original N001 design with PESA dish failed to meet the requirenments - switched to cassergain just to keep it. T-10M program rolled out - Fall of USSR and no money, same with Su-30 and Su-33. And only decades later it is finally doing a comeback.

Flanker has never been “fighting” to exist, MiG-29 has been since the early 2000s.

Flankers have been the preferred aircraft almost since their inception…

Now funding for their programs is a different story but it’s sure as hell more reliable to get that than if it were a MiG-29…

you can read how “Fun” was the development of Su-27, it’s avionics and engines. Engineers literally fought for survival of this aircraft.

I mean compared to mig 29. Everyone wants flankers, there’s more flankers in service than mig 29. Basically every single mig29 project died other than 2005 mig29m while flankers have been successful on the export market.

In this scope i to agree, because Su-27 is pretty much MiG-29+ in terms of functionality. MiG-29M could have a solid chance, but…

Yeah true, but like after it got off the ground it’s been way better off than the non-stop blunders like… MiG-35… MiG-29M/K 9.15/31… MiG-29SMT 9.17 and 9.18 (The latter only having literally one customer)…

Like the only MiG-29s to have some success is 9.19, 9.12/13 and 9.41S at this point…

and there’s about a dozen in between all those mentioned…

if you look only at production versions - yeah, i agree. But by looking at unrealised potential for greatness - Flankers had so much just wasted by simple fact of Russia having literally nothing in terms of money and technology after the fall of USSR.

Because of sukhoi protectionism.

MiG-29 doesn’t really offer anything that Flankers don’t offer already. So i am not sure about protectionism actually having an impact on that.
