Sukhoi Su-27/30/33/35/37 Flanker series & Su-34 Fullback - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

It only look like that when the nozzle has move from it “center”.

yea, here’s a shot with both closed. I think left engine is different, much less wear than the right one

I think i can see why some sources mightve called al31fp on su37 al37…
look at this
image
we KNOW su27m1/su-35 used al31f
but they just used number of plane in the name (su35)
I think thats what happened with su37
what probably happened is that it had al31fp but some media (incl pilots) called it al37 due to the name of plane (su37)
@GitGood @Temeraire what u think?
later platcard of the SAME plane has different engine name(al31). I think this confirms al37 was just misname of al 31fp

also why is every plane limited to only 1400 kph at sea level - su-27, mig 23, su35 now too, the manual for su27 says it can fly indefinitely at that speed so it definitely isnt thrust issue, ig air frame isnt strong enough to sustained flight past it

Yes, that’s why I circled where to look. The one in the background in the 2nd picture looks like it leaves a gap between the nozzle and its assembly, unlike the other two pics

Guys su-30sm shouldn’t get thrust buff, looks like it’s an “emergency” mode that only lasts for 7 minutes.

“Continuous operating time in flight in ‘Raskrutka’ mode ≤ 7 minutes.”

Yep, I think this confirms the confusion, people can make mistakes like that easily.

Just another “bending of the rules” to keep something on a competitive level. We have a plenty of such stretches in the game. From weapons and modules that a county didn’t even had, to flight model nerfs or buffs.

So I was looking into the AL-37FU and comparing it to the AL-31FP, and… It kind of looks like they have different deflection angles??? I’m not sure.

AL-41F1S on top (Su-35S), AL-37FU on bottom.

Source for the second picture:

You mean non-existent FUs. But it’s a bit simpler. Both Su-37 and Su-30SM have same engines and same nozzles, but Su-30SM have nozzles slightly rotated so their deflection angles resemble \ / while Su-37 didn’t had that and its angles look like | |

That’s why I was looking into it lmao.

How peculiar.-

It was done to get a pseudo 3D TVC. Both engines deflect independently, so you can get combined vector to be almost at any direction with this setup

At least the way the nozzle fits into the nacelle is different. 31FP and 41F1S have rounded gimbals

It could be just either early version of the nozzles, because it was pretty much in a prototype\technology demonstrator version or it could be just a protective cover for the moving part of the nozzle that later was removed for one or the other reason.

Andrei Foiman’s book doesn’t call it al31fp, just calls it prototype al31f with thrust vectoring. I usually call it fp for simplicities sake but it’s different from fp

Would make sense. AL-31FP is a name for a serial production engine.

Funny how some of the mentioned maneuverability and aerobatics Su-30SM struggles to do in-game even at min fuel.

Also conclusive evidence that 710 had al4f1s engines if anyone still doubted (at the time it still wasn’t called al41f1s yet)
