They did I believe, but things can change.
We already have Anti-Submarine Helicopters, they just don’t have their torpedo’s or depth charges yet.
I mean as a sort of aircraft system like the scout plane
Not sure, as ASROC has severe problem of cannot hit submarine on waterline or on periscope level. It could hit submarine under 18 m, which caused by it’s Mark 44 torpedo.
WW1 -2 subs rejoice unless Gaijin adds it without that flaw. Anyway there are other systems with similar utility
At least western ships with ASROC doesn’t have other system except Mark 44 torpedo itself.
Of course Soviet ‘Large ASW ship’ with double or triple anti-submarine system is different story.
Enlisted is Pegi 18/ESRB Mature (obviously)
Warthunder is ESRB Teen
They would need to change their whole age rating for single torpedo…
There is also a level of game play balance as well. A “Disposable System” like that encourages strategies that would be annoying in terms of gameplay because they would become ammo not a vehicle. Though there is only a SL punishment and a future reward punishment in getting knocked out the Kaitens strategy is the same as that USA main flying there p-47 into you in mixed battles which is not really engaging for anyone.
Infiltration weapons like the Siluro Lenta Corsa could be bolted to a sub as a mother ship and would work in game because your goal would be to go out strike a ship that is dug in and return. Or the losos-class submarine and her maned torpedo with what seems to be a mine. These would play like the sea planes and not stand alone vehicles. These kind of vehicles encourage non disposable behavior which can be played against on a more equal ground for everyone. That does not mean you cant fail or play too aggressively but your vehicle has a cost and is not treated like ammo.
I would rather see acoustic homing torpedoes which we already have in game but they act like “dumb” torpedoes. These gimmicks would be too hard to implement.
I guess the question would be is if they (and their counter-techniques) are going to be faithfully implemented, or if its going to go the way of SARH / ARH seekers, where they are similar across nations.
Further if they are going to additionally include autonomous search patterns / LOAL functionality or balance them by requiring a lock-on before they can be launched, to control engagement range.
Separately it would be interesting to know if alongside this, if air launched options like the Mk. 24 FIDO Mine (able to appear as low as BR 1.0 on the TBF-1), are planned to permit an ASW role to be prosecuted by aircraft.
I mentioned that in my suggestion here Submarines - WT Discussion - #1264
I think they should add lock-on feature like we have on IR missiles on airplanes so players have better understanding on what is going on though UI. Also there should be posibility of tracking your own team mates. Not sure if there should be friendly fire as it might result in massive trolling.
Perhaps depth bombs could be used as countermeasures that will disrupt the hydrophone in torpedo?
I meant more so that they would be abstracted, so that they can’t track a target traveling below +/- X knots, instead of basing it of engine RPM since it’s abstracted in game.
Anything more advanced would require gaijin to faithfully model the Thermocline and Knuckling / wave propagation, so I doubt that that amount of effort would be done.
Noise makers would be an option but I don’t think many vehicles would have access to them if we’re limited to the '50s / '60 designs at the latest.
Which happened a lot. Woe would neve get supersonic jets, we would never get guided air to air missiles. There are probably more examples
Torpedoes, depth charges, sonobouys, & dipping sonars.
Homing torpedoes would be kind of easy to implement for Gaijin I think. There basically much slower radar missiles but if you have an advanced enough sub you would know if your being targeted. But what would be cool is wire guided torpedoes.
Also Prairie-Masker
Not even necessarily advanced. As long as the submarine is slow enough, the hydrophone should be able to hear the cavitation coming from the incoming torpedo if it’s passive guided. And if the torpedo is active guided then its pings would be pretty obvious as well.
Yeah, lots of weapons from naval work very similar to what we already have in game.
Oh if the torpedo is active you’ll know all right
You’ll hear it so much, in fact, that one could be forgiven for mistaking it with psychological warfare
Though by the time you hear it that loud let’s face it, it will probably be already too late
fair enough but some subs likely have technology to detect if there being targeted way before you get to that point unlike the likely hood we get the wonderful death traps from WW1 called subs like the K-class compared to the Soviet Piranha losos-class subs full of advanced technology for the time. An interesting question being if Gaijin will add decoys and other sound related tech.
