Submarines - WT Discussion

I’m not aware of any source for this claim.

The last news we got was the BVVD interview last year where he confirmed that they plan on adding submarines, top battleships, and “new vehicle types”:

There’s nothing that indicates “five new ship types” specifically, so I find that highly suspect.

But it does seem like Gaijin is considering new types of vessels, and submarines are part of that. Playable carriers also seem likely but are further away than submarines, since we only have bits and pieces of code and text related to them in Mobile, whereas there’s plenty of evidence for submarines in the main client itself.

TL;DR: We can say there are new ship types coming but not “five new types of ships”.

A beauty that was the blueprint for the USA and Russia when building the first cold war submarines.

i kind of see potential in this because they would probably help balance submarines in some way by tracking them down, but on the other hand it’s still close air support which I hate as a ground player, let alone what navy players would say about it.

Yeah, she was very important in submarine development. I hope to visit her as well some day, I need to find someone willing to drive all that distance XD

True, also at certain depth (IRL) subs are clearly visible from the sky, so that will be very useful as well.

AI gunners trivialize most air attacks. Only high-level bombing can reliably hit ships without endangering the aircraft itself, and once you’re that far away from a moving target, hitting them becomes difficult.

Personally I think adding AI aircraft attack waves (like in Air RB) to Naval would be beneficial as it would give stock ships some targets to help with the grind while also giving player-controlled aircraft a chance to ambush ships while they’re distracted.

Aircraft will be one of the main ways of countering submarines when they are added-- there are already a few anti-submarine aircraft in-game and I suspect Gaijin will add more.

No see sense of playing carriers. Big, slow, and powrerless. Boring BB gameplaay destroys them very quickly. Or maybe you plan to use airplanes carried? But wait, players already have planes in naval battle.

Well, subs takes care of BB - no more stand at place and fire outside islands.

No sure if we’ll have enough time for that. You’ll be crawling at Maus speed while underwater, the battle will be over before your reach those bb’s behind islands.

Plane carried would be the main point of carriers, not the guns. They can carry like what 30planes? and you would be able to launch them right at the start of the battle, while currently we can only spawn in 2 planes and you need points for them. This is not the same.

Maybe we’ll be able to send AI waves of planes, or control a squadron ourselves who knows.

ive heard nimitz class can do up to 130 hornets or 85-90 mixed assortment of aircraft

Carriers are very cool, but I’m worried they would make naval to ground 2.0, where CAS ruins all the fun pretty often.

I don’t remember when I died to a plane in Naval, carriers would change that.

Okay that’s way more than 30 😅

imagine 130 hornets, each can carry 4 harpoons, basically guaranteed death to like 40 DDG’s

for ww2 stuff, USS enterprise could take up to 96 aircraft, Essex could take up to 100, and Midway could take 130 in ww2 config

lots of aircraft should be effective ingame because it was a pretty good way to take out ships until proxy fuse became widespread. would give something for the huge AA batteries on some ships to deal with

why not? they are huge part of naval combat in all time periods depicted in war thunder naval
