Yeah, they really are
I’m all about minelaying subs. That would be the occasion to add one of the most famous (and most successful) French sub of the war, the Rubis :
A cool modification for Type VIIC, Type VIIC/41 and Type XXIII Uboats would be the Alberich rubber plating, which helped them becoming less visible on sonar and less noisy. A few of those Uboats were equipped with it, lije the U-480, which was a Type VIIC which sank in a minefield in the English Channel.

An actual piece of Alberich
Yeah that’s a really cool one. Fun fact the name is borrowed from the dwarf king Alberich, a legendary figure from Germanic mythology who can make himself invisible using an invisibility cloak.
its possibly planned for next year they said that there we “currently no plans to add them to the regular game” but currently is not the same as saying that they will never be added
Cool, I didnt know the origin of the name!
it looks like uhhh… Suppositories? [Google translated]
Well, subs from 1863 , same era as ironclad ships, surely not gonna be advanced like the modern ones :p
Suppositoire btw
I hope Gaijin reworks naval detection before/alongside implementing subs. The current spotting system makes it pretty easy to detect your opponents.
The Battle of the Atlantic event’s stealth system was… pretty minimal to say the least. It was really amusing to see that changing course (!) greatly increased your noise radius (obviously your position should have an effect on stealth/detection, but not like that).
The tricky thing will be making the system approachable for new players while still following real-world logic.
They need to add a crawl mode for submarines that had crawl motors. Similarly active and passive sonar.
Sonar will be unuseable (because of the noise of the ship) if the ship carring sonar drives too fast.I hope Gaijin can make this feature into the game. Then submarines will be less likely to be found unless the enemy slows down , which will make the enemy a big target.
It’s the Hydrophones you are referring to, not the Sonar.
Hydrophones are considered a part of sonar. They are often referred to as “passive sonar.”
Actually, those details are visible in the wallpaper and ingame screenshots present in the official announcement post from that event:
( [Event] Battle of the Atlantic: Ships Against Submarines! - News - War Thunder )
So it appears that those details matched all along, and was only the failure of my screenshot tool that implied otherwise.
the whole existence of this Event could both prove and Disprove that subs could be coming
all mechanics for fighting with subs are there, and fairly well made even
but then again it’s an event, and we haven’t had 100% of an event get into the standard game before iirc
I just imagine them being so much fun. Not only playing them but hunting them too. God damn it I hope we get them one day…
and finally have use for depth charges, yea right XP (note the yea right should be said in a sarcastic tone)
I really don’t know how they are going to handle things like the Mark 24 Mine considering they can apear at a BR as low as 1.3 with the PBY-5. Since its more of a Torpedo than a depth charge
yes, I loved the last sub event
imo they should’ve implemented that immediately after
