It does have a 35KM lock range, but the actual “track” range is around 9-12KM depending on target size.
On some rare occasions you can lock the ground near something at beyond the track range, and the missile will begin to track the target if the target starts to move when the missile is within the track range, though.
i believe track range is the same for all x29s, being 6km 12km for all, hmm
The TD will do 9km on most things, 12 on things like the Flarakrad. The standard T is 6km.
But the truth is, to get that tracking lock, the plane is within SAM range. So in all honesty, the SM3 will still reign supreme even if the Su27SM gets a pod.
It needs the pod, IMO.

Biggest advantage Su27SM does have is the A2A loadout, F-16C will still be Better in CAS role due to amount of ordinance it can carry.

Russian mains are the one who keep whining despite having Su-25M3 and Pantsir.
M3 is so broken that nothing can come close in terms of Cas abilities, the reason for that its because KH-38MT’s are literally outranges any NATO spaa while it doesnt have to deal with Pantsir, not to mention it has the best RWR that can detect Pantsir Radar lock and launch, ıt also has MAWS that can give you early warning.
Yea better then previous Russian jets but still inferior to Su-25M3 in terms of pure cas abilities.
It doesnt matter tbh, if they add targeting pod then i will use 27SM due to bein supersonic platform, if they dont then i will keep using Su-25M3.

Not really, almost every nation loves to complain to certain degree, doesnt matter if its Us or Russia but the thing is even with all those artifical advantages Russian players finds a new way to complain.
Because it is? F-16 can carry more A2G munition while having similiar amount of A2A missiles and better flight performance.
However in terms of pure Cas ability Su-25M3 is still the best.
Never said i have any issues about upcoming Su-27SM and its armament, in fact i clearly stated that if it becomes better then Su-25M3 i will use it.
