It’s how parity is achieved, given the lack of US long range ordnance. The Soviets now have two long range platforms. It doesn’t necessarily need to be the F-15E- the A-10C would work as well
But give us something that outranges the Pantsir in the same level that the Kh-38L outranges all of the US SPAAG. Because all we are asking for is Parity. Which I what that will achieve.
I don’t care what the solution is, I’m just tired of being grossly outranged while having no chance at outranging the enemy. I don’t need to be miles better than them- but I need to at least be near their capability.
The MiG 29 and the F-15 are close in performance, the big disadvantage of the F-15 is its large size and the big advantage is the specialized training of USAF pilots in the F-15A/C for air combat.
The big disadvantage on the MiG 29 side is the inferior training of its pilots, the performance of the aircraft is not that important, the difference in results is always in the pilot.
Training of pilots has never been a problem in the USSR. Yes, the F-15 wins in flight range and max speed.Radar and other systems are still a heavy fighter. But they are almost equal in maneuverability characteristics
At a time when F-15 pilots routinely practiced dogfighting, including low speed/high AoA maneuvers, Soviet pilots were not allowed to downspeed and exploit the strengths of their new aircraft. The second thing was the number of flight hours. If I remember correctly, the Soviets were flying about 150 hours a year in 1985 ? On the other hand it was about 200 hours in US/NATO.
It’s not stupid. USAF pilots in the F-15 had far more experience with these regimes than most Soviet pilots. You can find this in most good sources or compare the USAF training in the USSR
It also wasn’t that many. What it is doing though is forcing them to defend and get off of missions so it makes perfect sense as to why the Russians would put them on other aircraft and use them more often
Regardless 100km is the longest BVR kill and it has been confirmed by that Radar track, the images of the destroyed MiG. There are others the R-37M has been a success over Ukraine.
Not anymore they aren’t Russian VKS pilots are getting more flight hours under actual combat conditions.
Something UA F-16 pilots are going to realise when they go from DCS to the front lines
Again. Kinda a bit of a one sided argument. Typhoons/Rafales/Gripens with Meteors have yet to see A2A combat where they actually needed to fire off a Meteor in Anger. Its out ranged AMRAAM. But when was the last time an AMRAAM was fired in anger? Gulf war?
