Struggling in the BUK

Filter only enemy planes and helicopters, uncheck ammunition and you’re mostly done with it. Just because you have two vehicles doesn’t mean you need to spawn the two launchers right away. Buk-M3 will work well early matches in long range engagements.

This apply for any multi-vehicle anti-air system: Don’t leave your radar vehicle in the spawn, this is a common place that airplanes search threats on. Leave the launcher behind a building and go away moving with the radar vehicle somewhere more safer.

It will help from overwhelming oneself, but that’s just asking to get hit by a missile with no effort to counter. Not really a fan of ammunitions detection being off. Rather die trying to defend myself and than not see it coming.

Only fire at targets with a positive velocity (V). Targets with a negative velocity are moving away from you, so they’re probably anti-aircraft missiles or something similar.

Always prioritize shooting the platform (the aircraft) first, and then its munitions if it has any.

Personally, I much prefer the radar interface. At a glance, you can see all the threats, making it much easier to prioritize attacks.

And obviously, as soon as you spawn your Telars, you give each of them a box of ammo.

Unneeded comment. He’s asking for advice and you’re putting him down.

Thank you for actually offering him some advice. Unlike the usual mouthbreathers in here who spend their days whining about ‘MUH RUSSIAN BIAS’.

If I play Buk usually I just shut down main radar completely, and drive on launcher.
Since it got aesa , it actually scans fast, only problem using that style is very narrow scan area.

I you use main radar, you got 4sec blind spot when it rotates and updates radar scan. So it is horribly slow.

Test drive is best place to try it out and learn it.

But still, personal opinion is BUK is complete dog**** as 12.7 AA, and S1 is making more use in 90% of games.

the buk sucks compared to every other 12.7 aa system, altough the type 03 might be worse, even though it’s better in some aspects. the reasoning for adding a new aa is because the buk sucks, altough players being bad does play a role in it

Yeah i would also rather take the S1 over the buk. also what frustrates me is that if you go out of the TELAR launchers, they always rotate to the same position, makes the faster radar be in a direction you don’t want and makes it that you can’t fire for maybe 1~2 seconds. same applies to the claws or nasams btw

This is good advice to kill more planes, but not to help the team, always try to intercept enemy munitions

12 missiles I rather take score out.
Only munitions is what is coming on you and even using it like that if there is spam of missiles etc etc even that screen is overwhelmed in real game

i always try to place 1 launcher on a cap if i can, and shoot munitions down with that, do note that you also have a ammo box.

It just occurred to me that the BUK is the only SPAA there you have a search/ tracking radar on a separate vehicle to the main search radar, I just did a quick test and it seem like the launcher radars scanning conflicts with the TEL radar, especially when they are turning towards a new target, not only do they bounce the tracking box all over the place, if something else happens to fly through their search area they seem to fight with the TEL over which target to track.

Yeah, they should make the TELAR radar the priority radar, that way it will be better

You need to keep main radar shut.

  1. Place launchers
  2. Shut down main radar.
  3. Go in launcher
  4. DONT USE BUTTON / KEYBIND on Radar ON / OFF. If you use it, it will automatically refire main radar, instead use binding for switch beetween radar / irst , and it will only fire launchers radar.

You can see if it worked when returning on main vehicle and look that radar is folded down. And in launcher you got about 90" angle of scan

Or one easy option is to place launchers and drive that useless main radar towards enemy and let them shoot it out for you :D

Or in testdrive just do this
