Stop. Removing. Sniper. Positions. From. Long. Range. Maps

From the sounds of it, sunshine up there’s probably pushing for it.

Yeah, i wouldnt be surprised either

Kinda sucks you can’t ping moderator comments for moderation. Mate could do with being pulled up on such daft comments. Especially when the game can be a game with long range engagements, and short range.

A bit frustrated with this.

So this mean you want us to go CQC only like some CoD kids only? Because your answer tell that and it all make sense now why a lot of change to downgrade the map

The amount of times I sat there thinking: Am I too close to fire still? And yes, you are too close to fire and the missile wizzes over their head, waking the enemy up to turn and flatten my tin box.

I know some vehicles do exist in a “needs the right map/situation to spawn” and I am fine with that to a degree.

But the general consensus over the years is for matches to all be about brawling (from the player base, noting all the thousands of matches that finally made me uninstall as players were evolving in one direction only) and seemingly the reduction in larger maps (people DO dislike some on offer and, speaking from sub-8.0 play, I saw it as players not using them properly, not the map being bad; of course it is bad if players play stupidly and I think large maps can expose the flaws in how many approach WT GF) is a result of that, in my opinion. At the point I should have already moved on I had obtained a fair few chat and and TK warnings, yes my own fault for getting to that stage, but was part frustration at how “dumb” most matches were turning out.

So now vehicles that were limited have been limited further, but the overall problem is this removal of the “sandbox” of the maps and being forced into the quick fix of close, face on, engagements (I presume, I missed the October car wreck on maps) has reduced the use of certain vehicles ten-fold.

I was never a sniper but I “played” the maps and the reduction in accessible spots just reminds me the game evolved into something for a different type of player.

Let people play how THEY want to play and have fun as THEY want to: Welcome to War Thunder 2023/4 and accept the consequences.

Maybe you can actually play tanks instead of dropping stupidities of that caliber…

There are tons of tanks designed for long range combat and there are tons of players enjoy playing in second line sniping or ambushing the enemies. Is BORING just play the same trash urban style map over and over again. Just remove the map changes and leave the players enjoy!!!

Its me or gaijin and his people are trying destroy his own game???

Why is this flagged???

He only have 3 battles with tanks in RB. Only play planes, but here is saying how main ground forces player we are wrong of course LOL.

Post flagged “cuz said the true”

The people against spawnkilling won against your opinion.

No such small maps exist in War Thunder. War Thunder’s smallest map is Berlin, and that’s still larger than adjusted COD maps.

Trust me when I say that I remember much more fondly the 2km kills on moving targets I got in the Jagdtiger than the point blank kills I get by holding a corner and listening for the engine sound of some poor sod that’s going to drive in front of my crosshairs…

I’m not trying to shame CQC. But we have 2000 vehicles in game, which thrive with different playstyles. What’s the point of having all those if we’re supposed to play just one style out of many?

The example I always think of is the Formula 1 calendar. Slow tracks, fast tracks, flat tracks, tracks with elevation changes, at low & high altitude, warm and cold… To test the breadth and depth of human skill and the machines themselves. You might be at a disadvantage here, but you’ll have an edge the next round, and the wheel keeps turning. I wish WT maps were the same.

Of course the crucial difference is that F1 teams are there because it’s their job, WT players must be enticed instead. And since the average player is very put off the game if they’re killed by something they don’t see, or doesn’t see quick action with the enemy face to face, it’s a “necessary evil” to go for the “one formula” instead. This is why new maps all follow a certain template, events all follow a certain template etc. Every MMO does this.

But please. Don’t rub salt in the wounds with dismissive comments like that. Not all people get the same enjoyment out of the same things in this game.

It’s not the first time a mod says the quiet part out loud when it comes to this stuff. And I still did a double take.

Then why do we shoot through scope reticle, adjusting for bullet drop and often movement of target and game reward when player shoot weak spots accurately?

And cue another post demanding all sniper positions be removed to stop camping …and so it goes on and on…

Who knows? What is anybody supposed to do in this game nowadays? I am presuming we are all being pushed now to do something but what?

There was a time when the player decided, now it seems Gaijin will decide for you.

Nothing in this game now for adults who have a knowledge of real tanks or have an interest in Arms and amrour. Its dumb kid time.

Maybe its a wakeup call for anybody older to stop wasting their time with video games. Certainly working for me, me and my friend Mr Credit card play less now.

This isn’t exactly true. Many heavy tanks were designed for the role of drawing fire and sustaining hits. Churchill’s were designed to draw fire from infantry and lighter cruiser tanks. Tortoise and t95 designed to sustain heavy weapons fire from defensive guns while they closed in and aussulted heavy anti tank defences.

Lately I’ve been constantly reminded of how beautiful WT could be and then I’m painfully reminded that, despite having the money and time, I’m probably no longer part of the target group.
And even if you adapt to certain circumstances in the game, statements like:

“This is not a sniping game… whats the point when everyone hides and nothing happens…”

I think it’s clear to everyone that it’s not about everyone sitting in a corner and not moving.
The gaming behaviour of many suggests the opposite. Many take the shortest route to the cap and straight into the head-on.
Yesterday I played my first hightier battles on 9.3. Within the first 30 seconds it’s straight down to business on the far too small maps. No chance of finding a good position to be able to play tactically at all.
And the changes to the maps clearly show that we haven’t reached the end yet.
In the end, even BR changes show that tanks that are actually not very good are not played much and can only work very well by a few players because you can learn to compensate for disadvantages through skill. What do you do … off to the top of the BR so as not to spoil the fun for the “I want fun” generation.

And then half-true generalised statements like:

“And no… Tanks were not designed to “Tank” hits… Tanks are designed for survivability just in case they sustain a hit…”

Do we really need to discuss the origin of the term “tank” here?
Even the first people to work on tanks were told they were working on water tanks.
The term “to tank” certainly has a different meaning today thanks to video games.

However, according to German logic, until the end of the Second World War, tanks were equipped more than ever with strong armour to withstand hits, so that the crew survived.
And the more armour, the more damage can be repelled in the long term.
But tanks are not just about armour. I think some people realise that it’s always been about armour, mobility and firepower. And these are exactly the three categories that the maps should actually be built according to.
At the moment we almost only have maps where armour no longer plays a role because we attack each other at less than 100m combat distance and only rarely over 1000m.
We are now working on removing the issue of manoeuvrability from the maps. Light armour can hardly find any reasonable opportunities to scout.
And in the end, balancing is all about firepower. Wonderful. Because we’re heading in the direction where there are tanks that become useless.
It’s not about me wanting to dominate the battlefield with one tank alone.
I want to … I know it’s already a lot of text … hang on a minute … A good example is the BR change of the M41A3.
The thing was already not easy to play on 5.0. Only APBC ammunition. You have to have a very good knowledge of your opponents. Where is the enemy’s fuel, ammunition or gunner located?
You always had to rely on preventing the enemy from firing. Uptiers were the rule. All ok so far.
Uptiers are also ok on BR 5.3. I can ignore the four toptiers. But now I’m confronted with a lot more enemies that used to be the top tier that I could ignore in a 6.0 battle.
Now to build a bridge to the maps.
I’m just busy looking at the map to avoid running into the arms of the next opponent.
But I can’t do that any more … the maps are so small that I can’t move. I still had some firepower before the BR adjustments to defend myself, but now I have nothing left.
No armour, no mobility, no firepower.
Is this the way to go? I like WT a lot. But not at any price …

Well, it can apparently launch it’s missiles over cover and hit things top down! So all you have to do is hide somewhere properly and then skill issue your way into maybe hitting something and not being murdered in brutal fashion…

Omg … that triggers me hard because F1 is currently heading in the wrong direction too … I only say more street circuits.

I have been following F1 since 1995, and I think it’s better now than it ever has been in my time. Yes, we do have a bit too many street circuits, but the calendar is also very big, so variety is still there. And some absolutely godawful tracks from the past have thankfully disappeared (Sochi, Valencia).

It’s the first time in a long time the commercial rights holder gives a damn about the product itself and the technical regulations are written with a deliberate racing objective in mind. I enjoy it a lot.

… But apologies everyone for the off topic lol

I said it years before.
Design ALL the maps where you can use ALL of the Vehicles you have in game.
Put in Sniper spots for long range.
Put in CQC for CQC people.
Long range maps for high tier.
Smaller maps for low tier.

Whats so fucking difficult about this. Like seriosly.

I said it years before we will spawn in a Pantsir on a 1km³ map. And now we are here. I mean its cool adding those vehicles but let me spawning these vehicles on those maps let me think about bad game design.

If this moves on we will spawn in with ICBM’s on 1km³ maps. Are you really want to do this Gaijin ? Do you even care ?
