I don’t understand how "LARP"ing is anything, but a compliment.

You play warthunder to experience flying iconic or obscure world war two aircraft and tanks.

Some of the most fun in the game there is to be had is by definition LARPing: Escorting bombers across the English channel to bomb the northern coast of france as you try and keep the luftwaffe of your allies (or the inverse - recreating battle of britain with raids on the southern coast of England as you scramble to take down all the german bombers before your airfields and bases are flattened).

We can have that experience in air sim, and it’s bloody amazing.

Few matches have lived up to the experience I had here. Pictured - tickets about to bleed out, we're flying in formation back to base into the sunset after an over 2 hour long match

Because. This is REALISTIC BATTLES NOT SIMULATOR. If you want to role play this is not the right game or game mode for you.

Exactly. Realistic battles, or as its name used to be: Historical battles.

Arcade battles already exist.

Sim ground is unplayable due to its random lineups. Half the time I think to play it, my british line-up I want to play is not available that day.

At least with air sim it’s just “Oh, today my 5.3 f4u-4 faces against 6.3 planes. I guess it’s gonna be tough.” With britain, “No, you’re not driving your comet no matter what today.”

If I’m not mistaken the entire reason sim ground is the way it is, is because there weren’t enough players to create normal lobbies. Which just further proves that you are in the minority.

Could at least make it like air sim rather than hard-limits of “no comets today”

We’ll duke out 6v6 on a 64x64 map just fine there and have a lot of fun (in air sim).

Ground is prolly better at 8x8.

No sim is unplayable since no one plays it, because its not fun. Who would have thought that planes and helicopters spawning at the start of the game would be cancerous to gameplay. OH WAIT LITERALLY ANYONE WITH A FUNCTIONING BRAIN.

Even air sim is infested with bomber bots and is extremely boring. Its just a bad gamemode.

Also you literally cannot play sim if you want to play a specific tank on a specific day.

See my aforementioned complaints about being unable to play the comet whenever I feel like it because the rotation said no comets today.

It has issues starting with korean jets, my 8.0 banshee is technically playable in the 8.0-9.0 bracket, but spawn costs and missiles make it only a technicality. It works well for prop tiers, the f4u-4 works both up and down, the a6m3 works both up and down, the p-51 works both up and down.

Still infinitely better than the current ground sim set-up of absolutely not letting you use the vehicle you want.

I get why it’s there: visual IFF and limited lineups. I hate chinese planes in air sim for that (chased a b25j only to learn it’s a friend as japan today…, but I rather that than “feeling like driving a comet? SoL.”

I am not commenting on his usage of it but rather my usage when I use it, usually referring to air RB in this case. People often come to air RB trying to “larp” certain tactics/things they’ve seen in media or history that worked then but will not work exactly the same way in WT. A common example (and my most used reason for using this word negatively) is when people at top tier try to get the game changed to more fit what they THINK air combat is about (active radar missiles being used at 50km) by removing ways people can use different tactics to avoid said ARH missiles, such as trying to remove multipathing.

The addition of some scattered AI targets, similar to the world war event, might mitigate the lack of action until being able to encounter actual players.

Though in fairness this is an obsolete term that should not be used as justification.

Exactly my problem since 2 years and in the last month they molesting all maps in favor to the russian players which prefer going head on into the battle and which hate sneaky IFVs flanking them. u can clearly see the map adjustments is exactly for this cause. I ve been in a russian clan years ago and played along with them. 80% of them prefer armor and firepower and were always complaining about beeing flanked. Now the maps makes IFVs obsolete on 90% on the map. I ve unlocked ICV (P) last week and get this thing spaded is almost a month grind. I just sit there behind a hill and use binocs because not only the maps mostly to small to find a route to flank, no also the objectives are placed in a way no matter where you go u have always a heavyer armored MBT head on. The map design was very bad in the past but they keep screwing it to a point where we just admit to a single map with a fishbowl design and max 1 km distance to each spawn…
For example i just had Tunisia battle 1 A/B are so close to each spawn once theyre there you cant do much. If you re starting north and move some hundred meters to the middle of the map u have perfect rock cover and can peak into the spawn. Basicly from spawn to spawn u kill the other team. And on top of that the closest heli base in the south you cant even start because any AA can climb a rock line right at thier spawn and simply shoot at you before u even startet ur engine. I dont play this game that much anymore, do not even buy anything or premium or participate in any event. I could grind a lot of stuff from my 5 nations that are all in top tier but i dont even care anymore, i dont want anymore. Its enough already the unbalanced addition of many weapon systems for some nations that can outperform many others and they didnt even added a system or a modification to others that it might get at least some chance. E.G. Pantsir vs anything. It shoots bombs, missles, tanks planes at 20km while i am in my japan SPAA look like a bad actor in a B movie. Theres 2 games i am waiting for its release and then i am done anyways with WT. once in a while i ll come back when i feel like to see some eyecandy explosions but thats it for, thats what is left of wt for me…

Due to bad designs.

For example, check the larrrrrge plain on the SW side that made half a map a dead zone for northern team.

Open “long range” areas should not always be considered as “Large”. There’s a huge difference between the effective range of a tiny bt5 and that of a T80BVM. Enough range will make it within reach, and become the same as brawling but smaller targets & harder to shot back.

And for Fire Arc, that plain gives no cover for north team but slopes and real tank shelters for the south. So the north team can never cross there at top tier, though for low tiers tanks are not that ranged.
