Uh, I think you’re on the wrong thread
Here’s some clear images of Spike LR-II launched from Namer 30 RCWS.
I also made a bug report on it but whether fixing it or not it depends on ‘game balancing’ ig.
Yep, i dont how that ended up here
I can vouch this is the case, the damage increase to 900mm was sorely needed, but the angle of attack is still too shallow. I’m convinced they could change it on a moment’s notice, but it is coded like this for balancing purposes. Also Spikes and PARS still have the awful tendency to target copulas and machine guns…
They really need to fix the angles, or code it to hit a different spot, it seems to hit the EXACT same spot on every tank by default. It should climb as high as possible depending on range with enough time to hit the target, I only seem to have luck against russian tanks, might as well save the missile trying to shoot at a Leopard it will just hit the turret front and do nothing, not even enough to get an assist most the time.
imagine, one of the if not the most advanced ATGMs ever made, that can fly over buildings , mountains, seek hidden targets and hit the top of a tank… https://youtu.be/VQHhduHTfgw?t=74
but in warthunder? " hit "
Gaijin tested the top-attack fire-and-forget feature in 2022 during the Dune-themed april fools event. And it worked. Which leads me to believe that the current state is purely intentional, under the guise of “balance”. There is no bugged code or anything like that.
During the 2077 event(2021 april), manual in-flight guidance was tested for spikes, and that worked fine as well.
No doubt its intentional. Firing spikes from spawn and guiding them yourself is game breaking. What we need, is a rework to the flight path, and rework on the way the spikes lock the tracks or the TC hatch.
In fact, it was shown how game breaking it was when one of the Swedish ATGM carriers got the same mechanic for a few days. People just spawned it, waited for spawn protection to wear off, and then had several free kills of players who had no way of countering it.
Maybe if APS was extremely common (like it was in the 2077 event) it could work, but it wouldn’t be balanced any other way.
thats the 2077 event. in 2022(Dune-themed april fools) it worked just as it does now without the insane rng inaccuracy and flat impact angle.
That would be easily mitigated by:
- larger maps
- non static spawns
- removal of 3d person camera
I fired a spike at a T80b that had its side pointed at me, you know what happened? The spike hit the Fing barrel. and than the T80b turned and killed me. Way to go gaijin.
Gaijins most effective spike
have found the spike to ONLY be effective when face on with the enemy. Any side shot is met with missiles completely missing or bouncing.
Apparently a new issue spike ER showed up, as because now after You launched them against something, there is the possibility that they will change target for no reasons. Me and a friend of mine have alredy encountered the problem a plenty of times (I don’t rember if this problem was alredy discussed, but I didn’t had it when I started using them on the A129D some times ago.)
I did notice yesterday, there was a destroyed tank near another tank I was targeting.
Locked the dead tank, unlocked, then acquired the live one. Made sure to lock, fired, and they both still went to the dead tank. Might be able to find the replay.
