It’s definitely passive behaviour.
You’re making the team a man down, and there’s no real reason to do this as shown by the mentioning of the server replays.

I guess you’ve missed the multiple times I’ve said I like interacting with the other players, which is impossible in a replay. Thanks for the clarification. I’ll continue doing what I’m doing, and if they change the terms of service, I won’t do it anymore.
Why do you need to interact with the players though… That’s the thing you’re missing.
I’m not “missing” anything. It’s my preference when I watch matches to be able to interact with other players in chat.
And WHY are you needing to interact with them in this manner, that’s the issue you are trying to avoid…
I’m not avoiding it at all. I’ve said it at least a half dozen times. Franky, it’s none of your business with whom I interact and why. I’ve asked the question, it was answered, and I’ve said what I’m going to do in the future. This debate is not going anywhere. I won’t be interacting with you anymore, as I find you pushy and unpleasant. Enjoy the game.
There’s no debate here, it’s just actually unneccessary for you to be spectating the game, and even interacting with those in the game whilst you do so…
Unless you are spawning in, how is it you are “playing” in the match?
People who go to a football game and watch it arent playing in the game.
Semantics. In the match in which I have been placed.
Exactly. Just go watch twitch so someone who is going to attempt to be of use to their team can take your spot.
Curious to see an actual staff respond to this. I’ve gone into customs to spectate but never actual match. Thoughts @Smin1080p_WT ?
Is there an option to report players for “passive behavior” in a match?
As you refuse to be an active part of your team, this option would match.
So if the game gives you the option to report a passive player, I would say, it would be better to stop it…
Or just don’t stop and see what will happen as you clearly described your actions in an ongoing match…
Maybe you get banned, maybe not…
But since there is this specific option to report it… well… Merry Christmas
To be honest, I don’t understand how can this rule be unclear to so many people here:
- You must play fair and not intentionally disrupt your team’s gameplay. For example, you must not hurt your teammates on purpose (“friendly fire”), block their movements, or stay inactive (“AFK”) during a game session. You must not use cheats, bugs, exploits, or other methods of unfair play.
The “AFK” is in brackets, so it’s just an example of inactive behaviour. But any inactive behaviour breaks this rule.
The same way as “friendly fire” is shown as an example here. But it’s still illegal to push your teammates into enemy fire in ground battles or crash into them in air battles, even if that’s not technically “friendly fire”. Such behaviour still hurts your teammates on purpose, so it breaks the rule. For me this rule is perfectly clear, I really don’t understand the confusion here.
My suggestion is (like it was previously suggested) to watch live streams and maybe even YouTube videos. You can chat, you can write comments and interact with other players there, even if that’s not exactly the same. But in my experience, like way above 90% of players don’t read or even care about in-game chat anyway. Chatting takes your focus away from the battle, and I personally read chat, but usually ignore it as well. I can chat after the battle if someone wants to talk, but inside the battle it’s usually just too distracting. If I want to talk about the game I can use one of game Discord servers or this Forum.
I sometimes like watching my own battles, so I can see what I did right or wrong, and that’s one of the main reasons why I started uploading my battles to my YouTube channel. I sometimes check how other players played the battle (usually when I see another player doing very well), but then I use Server Replays.
I understand why other players report you for just spectating battles without spawning. If I were you, I wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up getting banned for this.
An interesting thing to do in games, it could be against the rules and most probably is. Once again the rules are that woolly nebulous stuff you find written by HR departments, what is passive play it is subjective with a different answer for each person asked.
Also why is there no complaint/rule against playing recklessly or stupidly as that harms the team as much as passive play ?
It just highlights how stupid we are as a species, you have an option that could just as easily be removed from the game or altered so it does not impact the game as laid out in the passive play fluff, but the option is left in the game leading to the, to be honest pointless friction it causes.
As the poster says why is it available if it is against the rules, seems stupidity or laziness is the only answer or maybe all that hogwash about allowing people to choose. There are similar things all over the world, such as being able to purchase a speed trap detector but it is a crime to use it. So why sell it and why purchase it if it is not to be used, stupidity on a truly epic scale
Ikm fine with getting banned if it actually breaks the rules. That’s was the entire (and only) reason for me asking. Then I got a lot of opinions. I just wanted a yes or no answer as to whether or not it was a TOS violation, because I frequently log into “10 or more players have reported you for X” but that is the end of it.
Yea, there is as I’ve already mentioned. I said I get messages to that effect when I log in. However, that has happened more times than I can count, which is why I was looking for clarification. Merry Christmas.
Yes. Please provide a answer if you can. If it’s against the TOS, I won’t do it. If it’s more of a suggestion, I’ll continue to spectate some matches and play in others.
Ok…
So the system already warns you. You keep doing it…
What do you want us to say, other than goodbye.
Enjoy the last days you spend in your ship. Have fun. But I think that’s it for you…
You should ask yourself one single question, if you play a Multiplayer Game and you are not sure if it is ok what you are doing.
If everyone did it, would it be good or bad for the game…
In your case. If everyone in your team would spectate, is it a good thing?
It’s that simple.
I think you misunderstand. I only log out every few days. The automated message I get from the system doesn’t just say “passive behavior.” I get reported for team killing, foul language, and everything else under the sun, none of which I have done.
This has been happening for about a year, so I thought I’d get some clarification. I did some more research, and I found all bans have to be done by a GM from watching matches and not automated reports. The only automated bans are for chat.
I have my answer now, so thanks.
