"Q. Does anti-spall liner effect work for those tanks which had it in real life?
A. Yes it works, at the moment all vehicles in the game that used a spall liner of some sort have them or will be added in the future as more data becomes available. Spall liner in the game stops the weakest shards from the fragmentation cone, therefore in effect decreasing after-penetration effect. Post war Soviet tanks have radiation liners, that works similar to anti-spall, but only for the tiniest shards."
This is a factual lie then as the Leo 2A6 does not have its turret modeled with spall liner.
That or they’ve removed the modeling since the Q&A which was 4 years ago.
Why do you expect the spall liner to be modeled as part of the armor viewable in x-ray? Again back to what I said, you can’t use your assumptions/expectations as proof something doesn’t exist.
I’ve played the Leopard 2 since they were released and they’ve never had what you’re saying, a viewable spall liner removed.
At high tier spall liners matter more and is why it has been incorporated in to tanks as added protection for crew.
The major issue is what is normally a large vulnerability on Russian tanks that being their massive poorly placed fuel tanks is instead treated in this game as a defensive layer.
This is most noticeable on the T-34 series tanks and late tier Russian T-72 esq tanks which have two massive fuel tanks flanking the driver where normally there would be a massive weakspot as there is on every other tank of every nation at the tier the two fuel tanks act as spall liner.
That’s not relevant to spall liners.
I’m guessing this isn’t a spall liner issue but a fuel tank eats shrapnel and leopard 2 doesn’t have that fuel tank so I want this spall liner to eat shrapnel just like fuel tanks.
I just want you to look at the bigger picture instead of being tunnel visioned, what happens when spall liners eat all shrapnel, what tanks do you play agaisnt the most? Soviet? Well that’ll apply to Soviets aswell except this time not when you’re hitting only the fuel tank.
It is extremely relevant to spall liners as a deliberate choice has been made not to model them yet allow fuel tanks to absorb spall.
This is a direct imbalance that is ashistorical and does not suit the health of the game.
Spall liners if modeled would not provide 100% protection in all areas. As it stands fuel tanks act as spall liner, so why hasn’t Gaijin modeled spall liners themselves?
Fuel tanks don’t act like spall liners as spall liners don’t eat all shrapnel but instead reduce its cone size.
Let me ask you this, why do you advocate for changing spall liners to behave like fuel tanks instead of just saying fuel tanks shouldn’t absorb all shrapnel?
Fuel tank, a module to be modeled like the thin spall liner that will be present on some parts of the armor of a vehicle? if you do not see the difference idk how we could reconsile that given one is a box and one is a thin liner.
And since its a thin layer affecting spalling you would also know what spall it would stop and what it wouldnt. Which is where propper perforation simulation would be needed. Performation simulation being a upgrade to current volumetric to improve how shells interact with overlapping plates, partial penetrations, perferation, and edge penetrations.
and you would need documentation to see what the spall liner covers for each and every vehicle. is it possible? sure, but a ton of work to get right
If the F-16C gets AIM-9X and no one gets anything else, do you advocate for Mig-29 to get R-73M or do you say this is fucking stupid why the fuck does the F-16C get AIM-9X
I asked in a general sense. You then typed 2 paragraphs telling me why I’m wrong about the argument I never entered.
Gaijin would never make a change which negatively impacts a majority of Russian based tanks.
You can test a variety of solid rounds against fuel tanks ingame with the protection simulator if you want to understand how factually wrong you are.
Your question came off as needlessly hostile, if you want to know where I got that from, just ask and I’ll post the Q&A instead of going “well you must be a gaijin dick rider, do you fact check???”
Your excuse remains “it can’t be modeled because it would require the same information as every other feature that has been modeled.”
If you do not understand why this is not a valid excuse then I would ask you stop repeating yourself because it is not going to change my reponse.
What fuel tanks are you talking about? Are you now saying the Russian fuel tanks don’t stop all shrapnel?
Fuel tanks are modeled to absorb spall ingame. You can view the effects of this on any tank. NATO tanks have metal placed between the fuel tanks and the crew to protect against explosion. There should be spall liners where this reinforcement is, instead it’s left as 20mm of sheet metal to negate the spall absorption effect.
You can view how fuel tanks absorb spall on the T-34 series tank / T-80 series tanks.
Look at how a round is stopped by the front two fuel tanks on those series of tanks if you are unclear of what I am saying.
Just because fuel tanks absorb spall doesn’t mean spall liners now have to be a magical substance that blocks that spall like fuel tanks.
You’re not talking about spall liners, you’re talking about fuel tanks absorbing spall which I agree, for consistency in gameplay, they shouldn’t just eat everything, but I also advocate for removing fuel tank explosion since it’s a very rng mechanic.
Soviet tanks also have spall liners in them aswell. This isn’t a western thing.
Sphranel getting absorbed by fuel tanks aren’t even an exclusive Soviet thing. Leclerc also has that but it has bigger issues. So does the Japanese ones. The most infamous one in western tanks is the Leopard 2K.
I want spall liners modeled.
I don’t want fuel tanks to be modeled as spall liners without spall liners being modeled ingame.
And according to gaijin, they are modelled, just not to your expectations.
There’s 8 billion people currently, it’s not just you. Your expectations don’t govern the world.
Yes this was stated in a Q&A from 2019 and is patently false in current tank modeling. As I have previously stated they have either removed the feature or they lied originally about it being present ingame.
