Even in air sim, I cannot see SPAA being at all enjoyable to play.
Sure, ground pushes there are the biggest source of tricket drain and have a ton of fun CAP vs CAS occuring but like…
The maps are “optimized” to be viewed from high altitude, high speed vehicles.
A lot of maps actually break when ground units move on them. This happens to be one of oldest unfixed bugs in fact - vehicle convoys often end up underground because the ground lacks the proper collission set ups because why would it? People are in planes.
I have also ditched aircraft before where following my crash landing, I phased through the hills.
Sure sounds good. The Ai controlled SPAAGs in air SIM are extremely overpowered with their aimbots and instantaneous reactions. Player controls SPAAGs would be a major nerf for them and overall just make the gamemode a lot easier than it is currently to play mud movers so I approve
Basically just have the 2 teams form an armored column and drive to a select location and destroy an objective/ai unit’s/ apposing team.
With this the tickets would drain and the planes above would either be forced to attack the convoy or deal with aircraft.
(and Of course this comes with the balance of an increase to the maximum Tickets, How far they must drive and whether ground units can respawn or not. but its an idea. At least for br’s 8.0+) (Or 4 players are in charge of their own convoy’s, having the same “vehicle change” system as the newest sams)
(Also along with the fact that the snail fixes their maps enough to work with ground units)
Eh kinda. Just instead of fighting on a 1km by 1km map, You’ll be driving 4-18km (BR based) and fighting against possibly A.i. heli’s, planes, pillboxes while not fighting other players.
(Which should actually give realistic tank engagement ranges.)
I’ve only played a handful of ground battles (with my son, who enjoys the mode) - so my experience with CAS is limited… but frustrating none the less.
What strikes me is the difference between the modes - Air RB features a LOT of AI units, air and ground, but players control only aircraft. Ground RB would seem to have only player controlled units, for both air and ground.
Perhaps Ground RB needs to be a mode with AI controlled air and ground units, but players only control ground units?
I’d be happy to see a combined arms battle mode for the integration of air and ground units controlled by players. It’s purely selfish - I like playing aircraft and have no desire to play a ground unit (let alone grind a tech tree), simply to fly out what I’m actually interested in.
It would be interesting to see Gaijin balance people choosing to spawn in every vehicle class - you’d need big teams and big, well developed maps…
The range of the SPAA in ARB would be laughable. Without the ability to hide your vehicle between buildings, do you want to be in open field maps against aircraft that can see you with thermal vision and attack you with ATGMs from 20km away?
