Most cas planes at this tier are subsonic, have dumb or simple maclos ordinance, no form of optics or track pods, no ccip, no rwr and no countermeasures.
I have been using the OF-40 (MTCA) with the g-91 y for cas with the AS-30s (which roll all over the place and are incredibly unresponsive btw) and Zuni rockets, and radar spaag’s in a downtier already make it pretty challenging, while in an uptier any spaa with manpads or guided missiles means you will instantly die without having any form of counter play. Sure you can hug the ground (which might protect you from missiles but will just make you easy target for cannon spaa) but without teammates spotting for you you cant make any runs and the moment you pop up from the tree line to spot a target a missile will immediately kill you, the spaa will immediately know where you are while you have nothing but your eye ball to try to figure out if that blob is debris or a vehicle.
Its been incredibly frustrating, does anyone else have this experience playing cas around this br?
even as low as 8.3 with ZSU-23s and Gepards, SPAA is already far too strong. Radar SPAA with 1-shot autocannons V.S early jets with no ballistic computers, doesn’t go so well.
The recently added T77E1 will clean them up, its even better than the Wirblewind in terms of AA ability, I’m just happy to main in without anything else lol hadn’t had so much fun with SPAA like never before.
I do notice that 9.0 has less CAS in there, CAS population increases during sales and that is normal, but helicopters seem a little overpopulated. Anywhere else like 5.7-7.0 CAS spam is absurd, can’t stand playing 10 games and not quitting it afterward, and trying to play top-tier ground vehicles is a joke too, the only place left for me to enjoy is 9.0. Seems like I can’t really have fun in this game, even when I offers money.
Ikr. Tryna grind 9.0+ SPAA is absolute hell. You get 2, and if you’re REALLY lucky, 3 enemy CAS whole game. Meanwhile at rank 2, there’s regular full fletched ARB fights above the battlefield.
I actually grind some of the SPAAs in ground assault, you just have to win and they are one of the most effective vehicles at scoring high mission points in gound assault, the pay out isn’t bad and most post-victory give you one modification part but the downtime is 30 minutes.
Every single MANPAD AA can be easily outpulled by an aware player, even heavily loaded ones. I’ve watched a fully laden SAAB-105G effortlessly dodge 3 Type 91 missiles in a row before dropping a bomb right on my head.
Meanwhile, you’re using relatively weak CAS as a benchmark when that bracket has planes with standoff ranged munitions that utterly require MANPAD AA at minimum to keep in check, such as A-4Es, Ayits, A-10s, Buccaneer S2s and Super Etendards. Nerfing SPAAs at the tier would leave these vehicles even stronger than they already are.
Regardless, countering missile SPAA at this tier is easy, just fly straight and watch for the telltale missile trails. Once you see it, just full pull and roll, dodging the missile. Keep doing that until you’re close enough to tell what firing them at you. If it’s something without a gun (As most of them are), you can just get to within the 1.5-2km deadzone where MANPADS can’t correct enough to hit you and strafe them out. If it is, go low and hit them from an angle they aren’t expecting, preferably after some time has passed.
If you want to make it even easier, just don’t come straight in. Around half of the IR based SPAAs don’t have a RADAR (or have one that’s borderline useless) so they have a hell of a time spotting planes that don’t just take the predictable straight path to the battlefield. You can often use terrain to sneak up on the map, then pop up in a position for an attack on the enemy spawn, prioritizing enemy SPAA.
Some space bombers already existed in this br I think, some q5 or whichever variants can teleport bomb onto my turret, and what’s the radar gun SPAA gonna do to it? lol
Was getting uptier a little bit to 9.7 while in my 9.0, sitting at somewhere watching a route where there is possibility that enemies using it to reach the objective point, suddenly a huge bomb appears on top of the turret of my chieftain and sounds TIIINNGGGG when I blows up, killcam shows a plane hovering in outer space, sometimes it also has a shit eating grin to makes me even angrier lol
Walleyes are very inconsistent, you only get 2, and they only track vehicles at distances within radar SPAA. There’s a reason bullpups are almost never used, they’re simply not that good.
Gepards and ZSUs should not be fighting early jets with no ballistic computers or guided weapons. America, for example, only even has 2 vehicles even slightly competent against em. F-84B-26 and F-84F. F-84B-26 only gets 2 bombs with rather poor flight characteristics, and F-84F has 4 extremely weak bombs with even worse flight characteristics. They’re the only 2 American planes at that BR with CCRP.
XD F-84B-26 works better than F-84F. Imo F-84F should be moved to 7.7 and buffed. Regardless, this doesn’t address the issue of Gepard and ZSU being OP. Giving non-radar SPAAs aim assist only makes SPAA even more braindead to play, and worsens the problem.
M247 is at a BR where it faces basically no CAS, and the little it does face has guided weapons. It’s actual SPAA capabilities are pretty on-par with Gepard and ZSU, the only difference is it has quite literally 0 anti-tank capabilities.
Lead indicator, aim assist, what’s the difference? both a crutch for bad players.
Got that reversed. The issue is noob SPAA players who sit exactly where they spawned whole game, shoot at enemies outside they’re range, miss every shot, then complain that CAS is OP.
