Why doesnt the autoloaders on the T series Soviet MBTs explode when hit? A direct hit from the side of the tank on destroys the autoloader recently i hit the front of a T-72 from the from with HEAT-FS destroyed the autoloader yet is didnt explode its a jet of molten metal that should explode ammo not just destroy the autoloader. As we know from the Russia Ukraine war T-72 turrets pop constantly. So why doesnt hitting the autoloader do anything? Russian bias isnt very true unless proven the only reason we think russian bias is real is because we pay more attention to soviet vehicles than any others.
I don’t think that the autoloader should cause explosion, perhaps why Type 90 and Leclerc have high survivability on the side, but rather the ammunition should be hit and damaged enough to cause detonation, and in the case of the T-72, complete destruction of the vehicle. And, to add, HEAT in War Thunder is like gambling or better saying ‘Russian roulette’ but with two drums, one which is loaded and the other is empty.
Yeah sorry i meant the ammo in the autoloader not the autoloader. Yeah and at times HEAT can be quite weird at times.
You probably didnt hit a shell directly. The carousel has a tendency to eat spall and not create any new spall so you need to directly hit the ammo to set it off. Or in your case the HEAT jet needs to directly hit a shell
The carousel on the T series shouldnt absorb shells but then radars also eat shells as well so i guess just thats just Gaijin being Gaijin. Also yes that is possible I may have missed the ammo but i feel like once again the carousel shouldnt absorb shells like HEAT that makes sense but when i hit the autoloader with APDS or APFSDS the carousel shouldn’t eat those
It doesnt really absorb shells, it absorbs spall and doesnt create any new spall itself. The dart usually goes through them but if it doesnt hit a shell then nothing happens except for a blacked out carousel
Yeah that makes more sense than what i just said. But ammo is in general a issue like ammo being red after a direct and stuff it feels a but ridiculous.
I think Gaijin generally needs to take a good, long look at damage models and internal modeling regarding tanks. Right now its just all over the place. Some have detailed interiors, some dont, some fuel tanks are mini nukes, some are extra spall liners, some things internally create a ton of spall (looking at you Leopard 2 breech) some create nothing. Its just a real mess right now
Because autoloaders themselves don’t explode ?
I’ve had my shots black out the autoloaders but not a single shell was hit, so no explosion happened.
in long form: gaijin considers the entire autoloader as a single component, meaning unlike armor pieces , the autoloader doesnt generate spall, and instead eats spall, which results in the spall not reaching the ammo inside the autoloader, acting as a sort of spall liner around just the ammo. This only applies to russia, so dont rely on it in any NATO autoloaded tanks
in short form: russian bias, welcome to gaijin entertainment
Thats not true. Chinese tanks have the same damage model on the autoloader carousel. And yeah ofc it doesnt apply to nato tanks since none of them have carousel autoloaders in the first place
when i was referring to NATO tanks i mostly meant the horizontal drive, i should of specified, but anyways, chinese autoloaders are usually the same as russian ones iirc, so im not suprised. I feel like the autoloaders for both should make spall either way. Theres a good reason russian tanks have such infamous records for space travel
Yeah its essentially what i said in a comment above. Internal modules and damage models are completely all over the place right now and definitely need some work across the board to get every tank on the same standard
If you hit penetrators, those won’t explode if they’re APFSDS.
@H_ngma
All fuel tanks are “extra spall liners” in War Thunder, without exception.
Also there’s no Russian bias, not sure why posts are trying to derail your topic with that weak ragebait.
Tell that to the Leclercs. The point was more that some love blowing up and some are just there and act as spall liners. Im aware that all of them eat spall
It’s even more noticeable now after the patch.
HEATFS. There is your answer.
It’s the same with Leclerc:
Eats spall, doesn’t spall.
There are visual bugs with the protection analysis on specific shots, but there’s no evidence it’s a damage model bug as well without shooting Leclercs and checking post-battle results.
All fuel tanks will catch fire [which can sometimes cause over-pressure], and all fuel tanks will act as spall liners.
This has been the case for over 6 years.
I’m unsure why people keep forgetting this fact.
Thats the part i disagree with. I have over 2200 games with different Leopard 2 versions and i cant remember a single time my “shoulder” fuel tanks have caught fire after a pen
