And thats my issue with ships like this actually being in the game, i got no issue with it being in the game only the fact its been so ovely inflated that there is barely anything that can actually stand a chance of hurting it let alone actually killing
And yes scharnhorst used to be the same way but scharnhorst also had a limitation in its firepower, i don’t see that in soyuz, the polar opposite in fact
Yeah in a way im all for unfinished, maybe even more or less paper ships in the game (if it is absolutely realistic that they could have been built). The more ships the more variety and having top tier naval for only 2 nations in game would be dull af in the long run. If possible all nations should have a more or less viable option there, even if only for naval ec. And if most of these werent built or finished, and thus no real stats of them are available, one can have insane guns, one could be really tanky, some could be way more mobile etc etc.
Or well one could be doomslayer 30000 better at almost everything than every other ship that ever actually sailed the seas and create a game environment that no one in top tier wants to play anymore in naval rb and arcade. Gaijin clearly made their choice. And its not like theres no bug reports for its competition aka yamato and musashi. Those just never get implemented…8 months and running. But whatever its not like anyone is forced to play a bad and unbalanced gamemode.
I genuinely wouldn’t mind soyuz if it had at least something that bought it in line, like weaker shells, or longer reload, but no, it has pretty much the best of both
10 to 12km spawn distance, 17.2 second reload and 6km torps.
I could solo teams with it and the day I got instantly nuked through the bow when Leviathans dropped was also the same day I knew they nerfed it to a fairly reasonable state.
Edit
As cursed as Oyodo looks, this might be one of the best 5.3s in the game at the moment. AP is a HUGE boon and the unorthodox design works relatively in favor for her despite only two turrets.
I meant with the shells it fired themselves scharn didnt and still doesn’t have the same calibre guns as other top tier ships with somehow almost double the explosive damage potential
When Scharnhorst was top tier, her 28.3s were magnetically attracted to ammunition magazines.
Nowadays, they’re more an annoyance than an actual threat unless you’re within 8km of one and if you allow a Scharnhorst to be within 9km of you, you probably screwed up somewhere.
Scharnhorst was also more vulnerable to longer range engagements back then, since damage worked differently, again soyuz has major advantages and i honestly think even with the old damage system would flatten a pre nerf Scharnhorst without a care in the world
If it’s bow tanking at mid to close range you can literally go through the bow plates.
Same happens with the Bismarck, Ersatz Yorck and Bayerns. Although the Bayerns have a fatter frontal plate, the sides connecting the citadel and bow are painfully thin.
Depending on angle you have to go through a 20mm frontal plate and a lower 45mm protector plate or a 150mm middle plate.
The turtleback protects at close range like it’s supposed to but calling it ‘unkillable at close range’ is a stretch. It’s just durable.
In no scenario will a ship ever be driving directly towards you. It’s extremely rare for that to happen in game.
Secondly, its armor works like it’s supposed to, yet the SovetSky should be able to pierce it from what i remember at short range, detonating right in the magazine. Problem is, it doesn’t.
Just like how someone else, or you, I don’t remember, said that the ammo elevators will cook off the ship, and despite me hitting them over and over again, and piercing into the magazine, the ammo only ever stayed yellow.
A big problem with this is also that -correct me if im wrong- the damage vision in the window in the top right is a buggy mess and you can never be 100% sure that what it shows is whats really happening on the server side and with the enemy ship. Combine that with the buggy mess the game is in itself it boils down to: you shoot somewhere, shells land, sometimes something happens. Thats what you can know for sure.
Sometimes the damage window shows half the enemy ships on fire while they clearly arent, sometimes they are at 0% crew and not dead, sometimes their barbettes are blacked out and repairing while they are actually operating. I have shot an enemy (i think it was sevastopol or khronstadt) to pieces with literally ALL but one of its compartments blacked out and it was still chugging along like nothing happened, boyancy staying the same or even improving. And that wasnt just my point of view. It was showing the same thing for multiple squadmates also looking at him.
Consider almost everything in naval can and might be just buggy. You shoot-shells land-something happens. Repeat that in your head like a mantra
Also, the time you have to extinguish these barbette fires varies big time depending on where you set it. If you set it on fire from close range id assume you cant set very deep fires because your shells impact at a very shallow angle. Since i got the free ace crew on my scharnhorst i almost never died from those barbette fires when i was able to damage control correctly and always cancel everything else to extinguish asap. With fires deep down the elevators even an ace crew scharnhorst might not have enough time, but the better the crew the more likely you will manage in time.
