Sovetsky Soyuz is blatantly Overpowered

Ok, thanks. I run zero HE for my mains, and i run SAP in my secondaires.

With the addition of the Iowa and Yamato, it was never going to be a balanced update. It was some sort of strange popularity grab by introducing the most famous late-gen ships.

A good update would’ve been: North Carolina/South Dakota class; HMS Vanguard/KGV; Littorio; Richelieu; Nagato 1944 refit and Bismarck.

No Russia does not have an option there. But they wouldn’t be the first nation to lose out in an update before.

Then the final update should’ve been: Littorio UP.41, Alsace, H-39/41, Yamato, Iowa, Sovetsky (added historically) and Lion.

Yeah… that would ahve been better

This is for the war with the Project 24 (not 23) battleships?

How did the Sovetsky soyuz get 1 ground kill?

naval EC probably

Gameplay mechanics combined with magazine layouts.

Something gaijin has confirmed to be a mechanic and not a bug is if you detonate a shell room it will empty out the associated magazine but not kill you unlike magazine detonations which are always fatal.

So when a fire spreads down the elevator into a shell room and cooks it off your magazines underneath vanish into the void and you take lots of damage but can limp on fighting.

Now here’s the kicker, if you look you’ll see most German battleships have magazines on top of the shell rooms combined with short barbettes.

So when the fire spreads down the shell rooms aren’t there to absorb it and you pop.

That mechanic exists for the sole purpose of ending Scharn’s 4 years of terror with any other ship with magazines on top caught in the crossfire.

Outside of pure negligence Iowa and Soyuz can’t really be killed by fire.

cant really kill them in general USS IOWA and SOYUZ are both as tanky as scarnhorst pre nerf

You know, after a few months I see aged milk posts.
Bismark has the best overall armor.
Soyuz is between Vanguard and Bismark depending on the angle you shoot, and the weakest parts are the front turrets of Soyuz.

Iowa, Roma, Yamato, and Soyuz carry the best-penning rounds, but penetration isn’t always everything as they still cannot easily penetrate Bismark.

Bismark won’t even remain the most armored battleship either.

Soyuz is strong, and it’s among the strong.

Wait… What?

Have you actually played top tier naval?

Paper stats. Maybe. Actual survivability though. Bismark is easily one shot. Soyuz is not.

No its not.

Soyuz is far far above everything else in terms of survivability. If you are struggling to kill a Bismark, just aim below the A/B turrets with teh goal of setting fire to the turret lifts. It will one shot it 99% of the time and basically any 7.3+ ship can make that shot fairly reliably.

Soyuz has no such weakness.

Again. Really no.

Iowa comes close, but in terms of overall round performance, nothing can match Soyuz. Roma is hardly even worth mentioning given it has DOUBLE the reload rate of Soyuz. So even IF its rounds were on par, it would still have half the RPM and so half the damage potential (let alone the whoel fact that Soyuz could just keep Roma’s guns disabled)

Any 7.3+ (and probably a few below that as well if you aimed right) can easily one shot Bismark. So…

Only Iowa. Looking at literally any other Rank VII None stand a meaningful chance in a 1v1. Let alone the Rank VI that 100% will be facing it often.

There is a reason why Soyuz is just leaving everything in its wake in terms of K/D and K/S Cherry picking doesnt change the fact that whilst one or two might be able to match in in something specific (like shell pen) doesnt account for the fact the Soyuz is the best in every single category.

Yes, I’ve played EC with my friends multiple times in the last few months.
I also watch them play when I’m unable to play with them myself.

Every time I checked a Soyuz player, all but one of them was just a skilled naval player whose stats in Soyuz matched their other ships.
Soyuz has many weaknesses. Its front turret is a weakness, its broadside is average as the vehicle relies heavily on being angled for protection that won’t match Bismark’s protection.

And to address player skill a bit: Oh, you also brought up player skill.

Bismark, Iowa, Soyuz, and Vanguard players are doing among the best.

Not once have I witnessed first hand a Soyuz as a ship carry a team. I’ve seen players whom are good.
I’ve heard of players that carried without being good, but didn’t verify those claims so that’s hearsay.

I do not fear Soyuz anymore than I do Bismark or Iowa, but I tend not to fear ships in general so that fear is low.

My only match in the past 2 months was yesterday. I couldnt be bothered to touch 7.7+ because I kept getting 1 shotted by Soyuzs I couldnt damage in return

The Soyuz on our team had 3 kills within the first 2 minutes and carried our entire team. Finished with 8 or 9 kills I think. The Soyuz on their team fired 1 salvo at my Vanguard and took out 50% of my crew. 1 minute later. I was dead. Loss of unsinkability.

Later that match. I put 100 rounds from Rodney into the Soyuzs front turrets and below them, whislt it was in a full broadside. most shells didnt pen. (I dont think I even disabled either turret) I was within about 7-8km. Thankfully he was focusing on our Soyuz otherwise he would have just one tapped me

I cannot damage Soyuz in ANY British 7.7 or the Vanguard. An Uptier I might as well J out and quit the match.

So I will be going back to not touching anything higher than 7.3.

Soyuz should be 9.7. Iowa should be 9.3

that is just simply a fact

This is what the update should have been:

Also do not get my posts wrong.
They are only meant to share my perspective.
Nothing, NOTHING I say is a dismissal of what anyone else says here.
You have different battle knowledge than I do, as I do you.

A reminder that while thousands were experiencing a bug of ammo not exploding on direct impact, I didn’t experience that first hand.
I will see things you don’t, and you will see things I don’t.

I wish you luck on figuring out how to better use Vanguard’s armor piercing rounds.

At this point. Im just planning on replacing my 7.7/8.0 lineup with something between 6.3 and 7.3 and just not touching any BR that can be uptiered to face the Soyuz (which appears to be quite common at the moment)

Unless Vanguard, Hood, Rodney & Warspite get meaningful buffs (they ALL have at least a few outstanding, least of which is a 5 second increase to their current reload speed) and hopefully a King-George-V-Class battleship and/or Lion-Class battleship sooner rather than later. I dont really see the point in trying to play top tier naval at the moment. Matches being dictated by which team had the most Scharnhorsts put me off entirely, no matter how much practice, no matter how much effort I put into the game, nothing changed. I really cant be bothered to repeat that with the Soyuz which is probably even worse.

So even with the aforementioned buffs. Unless Soyuz got a reasonable nerf(s) , such as a BR increase, armour reduction or reload increase (all perfectly reasonable and entirely at gaijins discretion) I may still not return to top tier naval with any kind of meaningful regularity. Quite frankly, im more interested in seeing ships like a County-Class Destroyer or HMS Fiji added rather than any new battleships with the current state of the game.

I know several that have simply given up with naval at any BR due to the absolutely terrible decisions gaijin made last major update.

yea im not gonna try and get to the nelson class if everything above my wonderful HMS belfast is gonna be sealclubbed by a russian boat that never saw any liquid beyond the pen ink it was drawn up in and the rain that fell on the little bit of hull laid down

Your fine till Marlborough, Barham and Repulse. Just cant really play Warspite, Hood, Rodney or Vanguard

I have to agree with morovan, I have the Soyuz and I don’t play it much at all because it’s just boring, also I don’t get what you mean about the Bismarck’s armour, I have no problem taking them out with ease and the Iowa (probably the one ship that can do a little more than a tickle) is still easy to fight. I agree about the angling of the Soyuz to make use of its armour but even then the only real thing going for Bismarck is its reload

see im not intrested in Marley, Barey or Repulse. why would i even grind them if we havent got a class i care for in the correct tree (Revenge) or another class im fond of in a playable BR bracket

The revenge class in the ru tree is starting to grow on me, I might need to work on spading it as it’s actually enjoyable and can fight some of these new boats from what I’ve seen watching my friend use it, and yea I still don’t get why Britain hasn’t received one yet

Yeah, this is inpart why I havent been bothered with the 6.3-7.3 line-up ive been talking about doing since the decompression.

Our tree unfortunately ends at 7.3 not because of a lack of content, but because of a lack of care by the devs. Much like our ground tree ends at 10.7
