I found an article in a Russian magazine saying that the Malaysian was requesting integration for MICA missiles to the Su-30MKM, does anyone happens to have more information on this?

According to a 2 sources,MBDA has indeed offered MICA to be installed on the Su 30MKM platform,But Malaysia rejected it because of the cost.

The content is roughly like this (although it is a little, the information is still there, especially since the post was uploaded in 2005)

They also actually brought up the issue of mica installation on the su 30mkm platform again when discussing Mica NG

this is a new one, didn’t heard it before. Maybe upon hearing that the Indians wanted to add MICA and Meteor perhaps? Though the prior one maybe just a rumor as it was never procured anyways (or mistaken with naval MICA mention below)

at this rate most NATO members won’t allow it, best chance is taking Turkish based weapons on it instead

also this may be in tandem with RMAF interest on replacing Bars with Uttam AESA

not really, this one is referring to the Littoral Combat Ship (the extended Gowind) currently in construction (3 of them launched already) , which do have plan for MICA VL as main SAM (you may heard about it in news lately when Norwegian Govt decided to ban their Kongsberg NSM sales to non NATO members or main US allies, and that missile was supposed to be the ship’s main AShM, right now it may be replaced by Block 3c Exocet, or screw up with the French more by getting Turkish ATMACA)

It seems there is a misunderstanding here, I sent the link referring to a comment from a user who raised the issue of installing mica on the 30MKM. And it is not to show the complete information about installing mica on the 30mkm.

It’s actually a pretty old article, it’s from June 2007 edition of Russian aviation magazine “Vzlyot” which cover the handover ceremony of the first two Su-30MKM at Irkutsk plant.

Now that the other user also provided sources dating back to 2005, in my opinion the RMAF does wanted MICA capability for the MKM from the beginning, which as the sources say later denied by the MBDA.

still no idea, or the MICA integration stems from MKI given prior to Rafale they already operating Mirage 2000’s at the time, but India only bought the MICA starting in 2016 followed by Rafale delivery in 2019

or also, as MKM itself was made NATO compatible system for it that it can get any weapon integration if wanted (particularly European or the least France). Maybe as for this reason why RU want to trade in current MKM with 30SM(or SM2) not long ago (which is a downgrade deal even though for easier parts sourcing)

The agreement was reached after Koizumi met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin on Friday (12/6/2026) in Jakarta.

During the meeting, Koizumi said strengthening Indonesia’s maritime deterrent would contribute to peace and stability in Japan and the surrounding region.

Translated News article

The Indonesian and Japanese governments have begun discussions on the transfer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Asagiri destroyer to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

The discussions began during a meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Japanese Minister of Defense H.E. Shinjiro Koizumi at President Prabowo’s residence in Kertanegara, South Jakarta, on Thursday (June 12).

During the courtesy call, Defense Minister Koizumi announced the commencement of discussions on the transfer of defense equipment under a new framework by the defense authorities of both countries.

“Including the transfer of the Asagiri-class destroyer, it will contribute to strengthening cooperation in the field of maritime security,” stated a press release from the Japanese Ministry of Defense, quoted on Monday (June 15).

The Japanese Ministry of Defense stated that President Prabowo hopes to achieve tangible progress in defense equipment and technology through this cooperation.

Defense Minister Sjafrie and Defense Minister Koizumi then agreed to form a working group to discuss the transfer of the Asagiri, including matters related to education and training, maintenance and sustainability, and operational aspects.

“To report back to President Prabowo on progress,” the press release stated.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, stated that the Indonesia-Japan discussions focused on maritime affairs and defense equipment.

“The discussions focused on various opportunities for defense cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, including in the maritime sector and defense equipment, which still require further study and discussion by both parties,” Rico told Indonesia Defense Magazine (IDM).

there has been quite a number of visits and meetings between the two defence minister, so this is not really surprising. My issue with it is that its an old platform, but if its free then might as well. Not to mention this could open the door for more procurement in the future

Could mean we might see a Thai EC645T2 (H145M). At least that’s the only helicopter I can think of from any of the techtree nation that can use MITL weapons with up to 8x Spike-ER. While Thailand doesn’t use them, the capability was not removed.
It could also come alongside the German H145M that was in the files for a while and would be the equivalent option for Germany.

Thai EC645T2 with weapons pylon mounted. The mount for the sight on the nose is also still there, but from what I could find Thailand doesn’t have any in service.

EC645T2 with the sight mounted

Then again we also know not all nation will get any, so we might just get nothing instead.

Indonesia are also looking at KF-21, wouldn’t it be easier to cash in on the KF-21 Blk3 in the future?

Seems the pain of market’s less confidence on ID fiscal policy has been felt MoD. MoD plan to spend huge this year for defense equipment finance by foreign loan may not move forward. Only a few programs will move forward. Previously, MoD seems feel immune from fiscal challenges.

temporarily halted =/= cancelled

some take a long, long time to materialize, especially if its “higher priority”, besides this isnt really something new, we’ve had budget constraints before
