Southeast Asian (ASEAN) Machinery Of War Discussion Thread

Speaking of HQ-9, do we know which one exactly?

from what I’ve heard its the FD-2000B, of course dunno how valid that info is

Is there anyone who mentioned MB339AM of Malaysia? I guess that could be a very good CAS for Japanese sub TT, even premium( consider MB326 is so good now)

RE:

was confirmed today from SK side

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jung-hyun = The Korean fighter jet KF-21, scheduled for mass production within the year, will be exported for the first time to its co-developer, Indonesia.

According to a government official on the 19th, an export contract agreement for the introduction of 16 KF-21s from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is scheduled to be signed during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Korea, which is scheduled for the end of this month.

The official explained that a separate contract signing ceremony would be held in the first half of the year following the process of coordinating the final agreement amount.

On the 19th, a government official stated, “Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will make a state visit to Korea on the 1st of next month, visit Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), and sign an export contract for the KF-21,” adding, “We plan to sign an implementation contract during the first half of the year after coordinating the final agreement amount.” Indonesia initially intended to acquire 48 KF-21 fighter jets. However, due to budget constraints , the plan is to initially acquire 16 units.

The South Korean government and Indonesia are currently coordinating final negotiations regarding technology transfer and MRO (Maintenance, Rep air, and Overhaul). Both countries plan to sign a contract within the first half of the year. The Indonesian side is reportedly planning to hold the implementation contract signing ceremony locally.

Hopefully we’ll try and get the Block 3 in the future as well 🙏

Cruiser RI Irian suggestion is passed to devs

Also here’s a rare video of Irian in 1963, I had wanted to share it before, but I always forgetting about it

on another note our Rafale Cs are currently on the way to Indonesia for delivery, unclear exactly when they’ll arrive, but should be soon

What I understand from the article is that the KF-21 joint development phase will end in June, and not the contract finalization (iirc Mr Alman has previously explained about it in one of his videos about KF-21 project). There’s still the next day (2 April), so we’ll see if they actually sign the contract tomorrow.

ahh i see, alright will fix it!

Forgot to promote my suggestion lol but anyways my suggestion for the SPYDER Philippines Air Defense System (a unique subvariant of SPYDER-MR, different radar unit) was accepted a while ago.

Please do check it out!

we came full circle
(they’re not even using the Mi-35P but the German Mi-24P HFS 80)

ig WT is good enough to train the basics on how to approach a target and shoot at it, before you do it in the real thing

i made this post in Reddit and wondering why they use WT instead of DCS. Prem Mi-24P and DCS Mi-24P around the same price.
also i suspect they not really buying premium Mi-24P, just using test drive instead

during a discussion of a new Missile branch of the Indonesian Air Force, a curious vehicle was spotted

KOOPSUDNAS EXPERT WORKSHOP DISCUSSED THE FORMATION OF TNI AU MISSILES

the text reads SHORAD/Anti-Drone. Is this an interest? who knows, could be, could not be. But our “Trusty” Broker is showcasing the vehicle front and center, on a post earlier this month, so make of that what you will. But me, I aint a fan of it personally

Who knows could be more or less a Christmas list of wants. Though countries like USA don’t have a similar gun based SPAA system like that so I doubt they have much choice

What I was thinking could be done, at least if Indonesia wanted something like it, was a system as part of the planned ADS-400 SAM.

Planned Indonesian SAM system missile using Turkish/Czech variant of the Hisar missile on Tatra chassis

Spoiler

Hisar missile variants. ADS-400 is said to use SIPER (not sure which) and Hisar-O variants. For a system closer to Pantsir the Hisar-A might be interesting as well.

Now like the Hisar family of missiles in general, there’s also Turkish systems similar to what the Pantsir can do, like the Gürz that also uses Hisar missiles, MANPADS and a 35mm cannon. Maybe this system, or a variant of it could be adapted to use the ADS-400 vehicles and shared Tatra chassis.

Gürz demonstrator vehicle.

I would say that sharing missiles with the ADS-400, using a shared chassis, and maybe even integrating existing Indonesian MANPADS like the Mistral 3 or Grom into the Gürz (or a new, similar system) at least sounds more reasonable than a Pantsir.

But that said I really have no idea about the procurement or development behind these, so it’s mainly just wishful thinking for the sake of being cool more than anything. Until now there wasn’t even any indication Indonesia had a need/intention to even get anything like it.

I agree

Also anti-drone AA vehicles are sort of in there early days and people still don’t know what they need or want. With the shahed style drones it looks ever likely we are going to have a revenge of late WW2 style AA solutions. I even hear that flak artillery systems seem to be in development again to stop them. There is also the risk of these Anti-drone AA being so bad vs normal aircraft you basally have a one trick pony which is a risk as well. Then again flak 88 with prox fuse worked well for Vietnam during the war so who knows.

Honestly for pure anti drone use I feel like the best way is just airburst munitions, maybe simpler and cheaper small missiles/guided rockets, but not outright SAM like these. Indonesia wouldn’t be in a bad place with something like their current Skyshield and AHEAD (or just refitting the existing ones to use AHEAD), or just the same 30mm PABM everyone seems to be doing now.

this would be the logical solution, but it doesnt fill the coffers of those responsible for the deal!

the plan is that there isnt any, thats the current strategy of the administration it seems

but i dont think its going to happen anyway, if it did it wouldnt have been soon, especially since they’re only discussing the idea now, probably wont materialized in another 5-10 years

to be fair we’ve been accumulating tons of drone-warfare equipment for a while now, both for (fpv, etc) and against (jammers, etc). So its not entirely surprising
