F-16Cs that used with Sparrows did it via PD Illumination
So, who else is expecting a teaser tonight?! (Thursday night for the SEA area)
I didnt state “any PD” PD illumination requires high PRF F-15, 14, 18 do this, F-16C’s with sparrow capability had a high prf tracking mode for PD illumination to guide sparrows
this is true, the F-18 has no CW illuminator its sparrows guide purely off PD Illumination
now look whos making assumptions lmao
posts evidence of F-16Cs using PD illumination
“yup irrelevant”
incredible stuff man
Congrats, yeah I need to catch up on my jets lol the forum is very different looking
I really hope we get the teaser today, so far the devblogs have been pretty intense, so I think we’ll get it this week!
It was just to explain to you what PD illumination is since you didnt seem to be aware of its existence when you said sparrows NEED CW illumination for guidance
I provided sources showing F-16Cs with sparrows did it via PD illumination what more do you want man
???
I’ve pre-grinded the Gripen but that’s about it since the last two patches. Just waiting for that since I know it’s coming and the closest Gen 4 for me (and coolest!). What would truly get me back into the game is stuff like the F-102 or F-106 with some high alt modern bombers to intercept or stuff like player controlled carriers and submarines.
Aside from that other addition can be interesting but won’t play them much probably. Still loosely interested in pretty much every aspect of the game.
I think the timeframe matched up so fingers crossed 🤞
Not sure about you but I’m excited too see more about the MBT-2000. Also hoping china finally gets a better CAS plane
I’m at work tonight, so hopefully smth interesting drops, teaser would be nice, especially if it shows unrevealed content.
I wonder AN/APG-68V(5) radar from F-16CG Block 40 & F-16C Block 50 early did it via PD Illumination ?
I don’t worry General Electric F110-GE-129 engine, targeting pod and Air-to-Ground armament on F-16C Block 50 because it’s good
The problem of F-16C Block 30 & F-16CG Block 40 Barak and F-16I Sufa is never used AIM-7 Sparrow but good targeting pod, infrared homing Air-to-Air Missile and very good Air-to-Ground armament
I think usually teasers focus on showing unrevealed stuff and then the “main thing” of the patch gets their dev blog the same day or next day after the teaser. Maybe Gripen? Possibly something else. We’ll see.
I just hope these modern planes pave the way for stuff like Buddy Lazing.
Would make a lot of rather impotent light tanks suddenly really fun.
I doubt Gripen since I don’t see it coming without Fox 3’s and considering how there already holding back the new F-16 I don’t think we’re there yet. Makes since too if we’re gonna get a bunch of new planes at the same time while they all also get Fox 3’s.
yk it could just be that Gripen comes after AMRAAMS because JA37D can also carry them
That is the most disappointing outcome for swedish mains and therefore the most likely
being a Swedish and German main the most disappointing is always the most likely
I’m also expecting F4F ICE not to come this update Which would make it DOA
I can’t lie, the USSR is my most played nation, but I always notice gaps and missing capabilities in tech tress, and the fact that Germany hasn’t been a new MBT in what? 2-3 years? It’s crazy to me because while the 2A6 is a very nice tank, it’s lacking support at 11.7 for Germany, and in general because of the lack of love top tier Germany has gotten as of late, a lot of the good players have drifted away from it over time.
I’m currently grinding china and while I’m having fun I’m also wishing it would revive a bit more love with some IFV’s and some better CAS options. Also I want a top tier AA besides the TOR cus god that thaing has limitations.
You don’t need to change the block number.
Later block F-16C were compatible with Sparrow, they just needed the CW illuminator module to be installed on the radar.
The compatibility was retained to retain the ability to export the aircraft to countries to whom AIM-120 couldn’t be exported, for example Iraq and Egypt.
Egypt’s block 52 aircrafts for example, use Sparrow. And in fact, some of the aircrafts’ delivered are ex-USAF block 52 jets:
https://www.defensenews.com/air/2015/11/06/egypt-takes-delivery-of-final-4-delayed-f-16s/
https://eg.usembassy.gov/united-states-delivers-four-f-16-fighter-jets-egyptian-armed-forces/
Iraq’s block 52 plus jets are also capable of using Sparrow:
https://www.defense-aerospace.com/us-plans-4-2bn-sale-of-f-16-fighters-to-iraq/
https://www.dsca.mil/sites/default/files/mas/iraq_11-46_0.pdf
So either they just installed the CW illuminator module, or the new AIM-7M-F1/H Sparrows were compatible with APG-68 without the need for a CW illuminator. (Reinforced by the fact that the Iraqi deal mentions even the launch rails, but there is no mention of a CW illuminator module)
Block 50 better fits the game as it has some features that block 30 doesn’t, for example HMD (JHMCS).
And giving it the Sparrow based on compatibility even though it didn’t operationally use it in US service wouldn’t be without precedent either … Considering how Italian F-104 jets are a mashup of different planes in different services, or how German F-4F got AIM-9J based on compatibility, even though Germany never had AIM-9J, or how F-5 jets in US tree get flares and RWR based on compatibility alone …
Especially considering that its Sparrows will get replaced by AIM-120 in near future … So it’s not even gonna be permanent like the examples above …
