Something isn't right here

i just played a mission were i was at 4.7 br and there was a fecking Yak-15 in it! 2 br’s higher? Wtf?

what gamemode was it?

It’s because of the “averaging” thing with the BR’s of your line up when playing Air AB. I think it is leftover from the old 20 tier system days. They just never got rid of it after they changed to a then 5 tier system. It has long outlived any usefulness and really needs to be removed. All it’s good for now is what you experienced. Players manipulating the averaging thing to get higher tier planes into lower BR spread matches. And yeah, it’s almost always around that mid-tier BR you were playing, where players slip into them with jets . . . it’s pretty sad they still let this happen

Yak-15P is 6.0. If you build a lineup with a 6.0, a 5.7 and fill the rest with 5.3’s and below, you’ll get an average BR of 5.7. 5.7’s can see other players with a combined BR of 4.7 (full downtier) to 6.7 (full uptier). Maximum difference between them in a single match being 1.0 BR. It’s been like that for years.

But you also get stuff like this

and a long time ago, if you had more than a 0.6 spread(2 steps basically) between top BR and the next lowest, then it would automatically revert to the highest BR vehicle for the entire line up’s BR. Pretty sure it doesn’t do that anymore. But again, it’s leftover from the 20 tier system and outlived any usefulness it may have had long long ago. Just be simpler, remove manipulation options and add continuity to the game by making all modes the same in this regard.

Yeah, it’s still a bit weird:

For example, this is 8.7:

But if I put a Yak-3U (5.7) in it instead of a Su-9 (7.3), it goes to 9.0:

This doesn’t make any sense.

Btw. If I remove everything except my top plane, it calculates a lower BR:

9.0 + 8.0 + 7.3 = 8.7

9.0 + 8.0 + 6.7 = 9.0

WTF Gaijin?!

Yeah, simply removing all of the “averaging” stuff from Air AB would just make it so much simpler and easy to use/understand . . . we really just don’t need it anymore

p.s. there are a lot of examples such as these two as well . . . even kinda promotes a 1 and done mentality in Air AB . . the ONE mode where the more you spawn, the more you make . . . lol

It still does that.
I tried to take the F-4E(11.3) with the Ayit(9.7) and that brought me to 11.0, but as soon as I attempted to add the Sa’ar(9.0) and Sambad(9.0) it reverted back to 11.3, So i had to buy another crew for the Shahak(10.0) which allowed the average to be brought back down to 11.0 while having the 9.0s in my lineup!

Yes it still does that - you can test it by building that spread of BR’s yourself and see where the game puts you, but just last night noticed a guy with 1 x 3.0 and 2 x 1.7’s as his top 3 a/c and it pout him at 3.0.

Yeah, as I said, I feel like this whole thing outlived any usefulness back when they changed from the 20 tier system(which I never played btw) to the then 5 tier system.
I can see how it would have been of some help way back with all those tiers and everything spread out so much and a lot less planes in the game. But now, it just allows players to cheese the game and manipulate this outdated system to get unnecessary/unfair advantages.
I feel like the +/- 1.0 BR spread is adequate and works well enough in all the other modes and would be just as good for Air AB too. And remove allowing certain planes to be taken in at a lower BR than is stated in the tech tree . . . if it’s a 5.7 then that’s what it goes into games as, not 5.3 when used as a single plane line up. By the time players get into tier II or III, there is no reason to handhold them anymore and that’s all this averaging could really help with, but ofc … . players will seek any and all advantages when it seems like a more fun, fair and balanced method of matchmaking would benefit everyone a lot more . . . but that’s just me. I run all my line up’s with every vehicle as close to the same BR as I can make it . . . that’s the only “advantage” I have ever used. I have never gotten a “God Mode” award(which is also a holdover from the 20 tier thing) in my nearly 11 years of playing . . and I’m ok with that . . . heck, I wouldn’t even mind playing games like the KV-7 event where everyone has the same vehicle laid out the same way. Then it truly comes down to skill, situational awareness, thinking on your feet and a little luck . . real gaming . . . lol, but that’s just me . ☻

normal i have gotten a p-40f into a 1.0 match
