I’ve been spading out several bomb-equipped jets lately, and when some of the boring map rotation at 7.7+ run out of ground units to kill reliably, I’ve attempted going after these. Only thing I notice is that my bombs, normally run on a 2sec fuse since many years ago, the bombs appear to directly hit the ship and detonate, but do very little damage. A common example map where this often is the case is Falklands, where once the ground unit line is killed off, there are still tickets left and only ships or bombing targets to hit.
Furthermore, I can’t seem to replicate this in the Test Flight, as all the targets are Coastal Vessels, so I am genuinely confused as to what is going on here. Most of the jets I have been spading don’t even have AP bomb options - R2Y2s do but the Kikka, 262 Jabo, and Sturmvogel do not.
Did something happen with Naval damage models regarding bombs? And what is a jet that doesn’t have AP bombs supposed to do about it? I just tried using a 0-second fuse and that “non-penetrationed” with the Kikka’s 800kg bomb on an AI USS Moffett on the Air RB Tunisia map. A 2-second fuse sunk underwater and only sorta harmed the engine area of an AI USS Mitscher on the Falklands map.
Actually to my knowledge they do, but not enough to currently end the match. The actions of the AI attacker aircraft do not bleed any tickets ever since the frankly whine-induced change demanding that, but player-driven ground unit kills do bleed standard amounts of tickets.
So not even AP bombs work currently? What about air-dropped torpedoes? I tried hitting one of the AI Moffetts while respading one of the B6N dive bombers with a torpedo, and while it physically hit the ship it did little to no damage - however idk if that was due to me choosing a 1m torpedo depth stroke or not.
I also cannot seem to get those AI Carrier + 2 DD Escorts to spawn in Custom Battles to properly test things.
OK, the map is for 6.7+.
I played it from 8.0 to toptier a lot. Not a single ground/naval target killed by player drained tickets at all although the marker shows you they should do. Play some lower tier maps and you see the ground targets without ticket drain are a little bit darker colored.
Only destroying bases or killing AI planes drain tickets as usual. Crashing AI planes drain no tickets neither like on every map.
Same on the denmark map. Both are new maps introduced at the same time.
Ground targets killed by AI planes, as you said, drain no tickets at all anymore since gjn changed it, on any map. They only reduce the targets, so you can win maps quicker by killing all targets. But not on falklands. Maybe you have to kill all naval targets too, but that’s not possible in time.
Haven’t used aerial torpedoes much sorry, grinding with nations with poor torpedo bombers atm so only used bombs & some rockets. Hopefully it’s fixed soon since it effects two modes.
Also torpedo depth wise, a Porter class Destroyer Leaders has a 3.18 metre draft, so the 4 metre option would be useless & skim under the keel, so stick with the 1 metre depth against 90% of destroyers.
I’ve been around many years in this game, since 2015 - I know what you are talking about regarding some ground units flashing yellow bleeding tickets when killed and plain red ones not doing so. That used to be the norm before suddenly everything was changed to bleed tickets.
In theory Falklands should be easier to win via CAS on, if bombs actually worked against the AI ships. But I saw a Kikka’s 800kg bomb “non-penetration” on a Moffett with an instant fuse, when in reality a bomb that size would probably snap that DD in half.
I’ll take your word for it.
I tried using the B6N’s torpedo with a 1m draft and it did basically fuck all for damage, as if it was a solid dud projectile with no explosive at all. I made sure to drop it far away enough for it to arm (50m travel distance), but it didn’t do anything whatsoever. Thus I was wondering if the 4m draft would actually hit something important and actually detonate.
