If they aim for it first, your main gun is still active and can immolate the hull. If they barrel you the 14.5 is still alive and can kill the whole turret crew.
Gepard is in a Catch-22 when it runs into a T-10M, or any other machine with the lovely 14.5 - the SU-122-54 also can work wonders here because while it is a turretless TD, it has a small turret on top with a 14.5.
either way, it just shows that it is a skill issue if you cant deal with a gepard or one of the other variants since there are plenty of ways to deal with it
The helis at that br still outrange the gepard genius. In the end the 2S38 is still more effective
Seriously you are just proving you are hating on germany for the sake of germany. Because the other countries version have the same capability
68 pen vs 127 pen is a pretty significant difference. It also has a lot of difficulty maneuvering in urban environment due to wheeled vs tracked chassis. Then you have the radar problem. When its up, you are the largest vehicle in the game. Meanwhile the gepard’s two radars track better than your one (though you do have better search). Having played both, the gepard is far better for the variety of maps in this game.
Gepard has been under BR’d for ages, and ages. If the Lav-Ad is 10.3 material, than the Gepard 1A2 is as well. The Regular Gepard is easily 8.7-9.0 material. It can search and track simultaneously, while even the ItPsV 90 and Cheiftain marksman don’t, and are at a higher BR.
I don’t get it. In an AA role, the Gepard and it’s analogues are pretty mediocre. They counter dumb bombing CAS alright, but even after the BR split they face a lot of CAS with some form of guided ordinance that puts the advantage back on the CAS.
You have first gen helicopters with guided missiles, all of which if skillfully piloted can sit outside the Gepard’s effective range by jinking back and forth, while still salvoing off missiles.
You have a couple of planes with Bullpups still at the tier (Scimitar, A-4B, FJ-4B VMF) who can easily joust and win against a Gepard if played well.
You have the early CCIP planes (SAAB-105/Alpha Jets) who can similarly dodge Gepard fire easy enough and dunk bombs at the same time, although admittedly this relies on the Gepard not moving while firing.
And even though they’ve been uptiered, Gepards are still expected to face and counter the A-4Es in even partial uptiers, which isn’t even close.
Against tanks, they’re only OK. The APDS is scary, but you only get 40 rounds, enough for 1-2 kills with good trigger discipline, and even with that you can’t pen a lot of MBTs front on. And once the APDS runs out, you’re stuck with guns that can pretty much only kill light vehicles frontally, and some MBTs side on. Meanwhile, they’re all large, tall, very vulnerable targets, some even suscepitble to .50 cals. With good positioning and luck, you can make them work, but they’re hardly overpowered.
Since I exclusively play it as a TD/Heli spanker I have had very little issues with the pen, what you can’t got through you can usually just pop their cupola or weird spots that cause overpressure to occur, generally using the mobility to drive to the other side of the map and murder everything you see has happened far more for me in the Za-35 than the Gepard, mainly because a majority of squishy targets at the BR are german so i prefer playing against them.
