Hah I would love to play night sim matches, imo with NVD its sounds super fun
Yes but people already leave matches BECAUSE of the weather (Im one of them) becuase if you cant see where the ground is because of clouds then what’s the point of spawning if your likely to crash because you cant see anything? its literally just a waste of SL and boosters
I am an attack and interceptor pilot so having some bots, whether they be bombers and attackers or even helicopters, makes my mission more fun! Flying an Su-25 in air sim is such a wonderful experience, and having helicopters be a target to destroy that are on the way to a ground battle would be a dream come true!
How would this be any different from people creating games, checking the weather preset and then leaving when it’s not what they like?
It’s a common practice amongst streamers like Krabb and Wingalingdragon. Also it’s not uncommon for players to leave in weather conditions they do not like; dark dusk maps with green background and the 1000m cloud layer are straight up not fun to play past a certain point.
Exactly what ive been saying theres nothing stopping players from doing that so just make it so you dont have to leave because pf crappy weather
I get any weather I’m dealt, see it as a challenge or sometimes as a perk, but mostly atmospheric and immersive.

Muh client side clouds that other people can see through
Well, I’m Swiss so operating military aircraft in adverse weather in the mountains is fine - but Afghanistan with zero visibility and no GCA is, ahaha, more than just a challenge… ;-)
Worry not, we are getting new hangars.
Lol
The truth about bots is, they fly better than 70% of the player base and they know where you are. Only experienced players can actually farm RP off bots. Shoji and Tetsuo were once the terrors of the sky.
I say, let there be bots, they will take a stick to any unwary player, as compared to games with 4 and 6 players just playing a peace server.
The main problem with bots was this, they have historically failed to re spawn once they are replaced by a player, and the player count drops.
The bots should be filling up the ranks to maximum so its always a full server
I don’t think weather should be customizable. Maps with excessive cloud cover can be irritating when playing a fighter, but I’d rather that than having all maps with clear skies at noon because most players won’t choose anything else.
I’d rather see clouds being reworked to be more dynamic and more varied instead of the single continuous cloud layer appearing at the same altitude every single time.
Bots, only if the AI is reworked or if they’re purposely weak. Named bots have a 360° awareness radius and overly aggressive behavior. They can be really annoying to fight, especially when they have a better plane than yours. A single bot with a low tier plane as a placeholder until more players join would be okay, though. Shooting them down wouldn’t give you a high score either, in case people try farming them. Not that I think anyone cares about that other than Gaijin.
I don’t think the state of the weather is a negative you make it so the weather is fixed on the server side, and make a small concession to realism so that it is always clear on certain important spots like airfields or frontline battles. And honestly the only advantage of a customizable weather would be to actually allow battles at night on in a snow storm if you so wished - people may not be able to select the weather right now, but instead they’ll abandon the lobby of the game they created if the weather preset is not to their liking.
that’s exactly how I was hoping they would be implemented
Removing the bots, has pretty much shut down the game mode. Bots were never a farming thing in SIM.
Formations of AI bombers . . was never a replacement for the named bots.
It was far easier to fly across the map and mash the space bar, as compared to shooting down a maneuvering fighter in a fighter.
Yes, you could shoot down bots if you knew what you were doing, but most people just got their feelings hurt because they got bounced by bots. Bots were a lot of fun and remarkably challenging when they ganged up.
Had there been bots, there could easily be historical EC matches running, players joining and leaving at will, and not having to join circus matches because of needing player numbers.
I think it would be good, to have all the default historical matches running perpetually, with bots to make up the full matches and leave the all nation circus matches to custom creations.
Removing the named bots, was just another step in reducing rewards and fun from the SIM mode and reducing it to nothing but a tourism. SIM was never farmed by players in fighters and the data on rewards never reflected that, nor the manner in which tech trees were navigated using bomber exploits.
Sorry folks . . . it was never the bots.
The destruction of SIM has been a sad story of where misplaced egos, destroying a thing of beauty, or its a Psyop to make sure the west can never produce fighter pilots who can dog fight
When a bot wanted you . . . A bot got You
Farming bots was definitely a thing that happened and is definitely still a thing that happens. Most of the time when you see a guy with 10+ KD in an airplane, he is playing it on the strongest day, and using whatever method nets easiest kills for the statcard.
These players will also leave the second someone that can shoot them down joins on the enemy team.
Here is an example;
You might run into a guy playing Ariete on 8.0 - 9.0 days by name of Lisa Schults. His KD is very impressive.
The way he gets that KD though is by playing the most broken planes in the game and playing them exclusively against noobs. There was a point where I reversed him with a stock Me.262 while he was in an Su-11 and he immediately left the game and then blacklisted me. Now whenever I join in the opposite team he will leave.
There are many such cases.
Bots are significantly easier to shoot down than players in WarThunder. They never maneuver to the maximum capability of the plane; you can see this just by the fact that they never produce wingtip vortices.
Everyone likes the idea of historical matches until it comes time to actually play them. Having a bunch of bot populated lobbies would just further spread thin the current amount of active players.
Adding bots would make sim into a “tourism” mode. Concentrating an increasing number of experienced players into a smaller number of lobbies is what actually ruins the “tourism” experience and means that the new vs experienced player skill gap is greater than it’s ever been.
Also due to the way that most people want to play with good teammates and good planes it is not uncommon to run into squads of players in prop tiers or for most experienced players to concentrate on one side. Usually all of the experienced players on the opposite will quit after a few deaths and find a new match where they can do well. There are some people that don’t do this but they are a very spiteful minority.
This creates a situation where instead of having one competitive and sweaty game…you create two games that are non-competitive.
Killing 10 bots, means actually going out and dog fighting them, that is not farming and it is not an exploit
That is what the game mode was, dog fighting
The bots had pretty decent skills and they would sneak up on you if you were not watching and they would also gang up on you, 2 -3 at a time and if you were not good enough, you would get killed.
That is not farming . .that is playing the game.
Compare that to flying across the map in a straight line and mashing the space bar, and getting huge rewards . .
The only problem with that was the “Bots” . . .
If people who can do little more that mash the space bar with auto stabilized flight and 360 degree gunners could farm bots . … you can rest assured, bots would be all in vogue
unfortunately, shooting bots required one to maneuver and get guns on target
How does one consider that farming?
Bombing was farming and that is why, people from other modes came to sim
Do you not consider shooting down the AI bomber flights flying in a straight line farming?
The truth my dear friend is when the Named bots were in the sky, there was no farming, because they knew exactly where you were and they would come and engage you and there was never a moment of peace
There still are games with named bots and those named bots are not a challenge. They are especially not a challenge for anyone flying top-meta pick for the day.
Hardly . .though I have not been active for a couple of years, when ever I have jumped in, its been 4 miserable people on a wide open map, doing nothing at all.
I think it all comes down to a definition of farming, a repetitive, exploitive behavior for repeated and significant rewards.
The last time I remember unlocking something by killing bots was when Tier V was first introduced and a lot of people did not like flying the early jets.
Since then, killing bots has never given any significant reward in SL or RP, while bombing static targets has unlocked entire tech trees in a couple of ECs.
So if there is farming, its certainly not killing named bots.
In fact if there are named bots, you can’t have “Peace servers” which seems to be the goto game play for “Farming”
I agree, if you know what you are doing, the named bots are not challenging, alone, but if they are 2 or 3 or they catch you unexpectedly or locked on a target, its a whole different thing, as compared to what . . . search for 40 mins for a bomber, who is not farming?
But for the new player, bots are a god send, they train you and burn you and force you to learn the game, learn ACM, get your joystick working, get your head tracking going
Not having bots, is just another step in lowering the bar in sim and turning it into a nothing burger
And just to Add . . . I have actually done the bomber bit and the F4 Rocket bit simply out of spite and there was simply no comparison on any scale. One was simply game play and dog fighting and the other was pure exploitation.
Oh . .don’t get me wrong, not being argumentative,
heh heh . . .been part of the Forum Thunder scene for a long long time and probably spent more time being banned, than some people have spent in game . . .
I just have some really old gripes with Giggles

You never gave us a wind sock that flapped. The Navy got wavy flags, but our windsocks were always at attention and then never there. A flapping windsock is a thing of beauty.

When I create a a custom battle, from the player missions, NOT a custom EC, you know, the single missions

For the love of god and all that is holy and sacred
On this screen, please add a check box so I can select only fighters
I would like to be able to fight bots in fighters and not have bombers. BR will not adjust this as Bombers are at all BRs. So please . . .just add the filter
and as a bonus objective AI skill level
Its not hard, you know exactly where in your game engine to set these values, it will take your junior most developer 40 minutes to add the box and assign the values.

Would love a gun sight brightness control

. . . not even going to say it
