Royal Thai Navy
HTMS Makut Rajakumarn
Soft launch of the Anti-Air Naval Missiles

HTMS Makut Rajakumarn Training Frigate in the
ASEAN International Fleet Review, Pattaya Bay, Chonburi, Thailand

History

Spoiler

The HTMS Makut Rajakumarn is a frigate operated by the Royal Thai Navy. The ship was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders in Glasgow, Scotland 1971. The ship entered service in 1973 and is currently (2010) in service as a training ship. It once served as the Royal Thai Navy’s flagship

The design was based on the Malaysian frigate KD Rahmat, but is larger and has a second gun at the stern. The ship was refitted in 1985-88 following an engine room fire in 1984, with the Sea Cat missiles and Limbo anti submarine mortar removed and replaced by anti-submarine torpedo tubes and new radar and sonar.

Purpose and Why?

Spoiler

Now I debated on whether to submit an actual proposal or not but I decided against it as this is really just a throw in the dark type of thing. If you think that it might be best to actually submit a proper proposal do let me know but, this is the gist of it.

Since anti-air missiles for naval are not yet in the game, it would be very hard to suggest newer and more modern vessels. This however has the unique distinction of being a modern frigate but its anti-air missiles have been taken out in exchange of torpedoes and electronic equipment. This works great for us War Thunder players as we now have a variant of the ship that is compliant with current gameplay - and the added bonus of it being readily-available for anti-air missiles once they become available.

Do let me know what you guys think but this ship is still potent enough even if it had lost its anti-air missiles. I dont even know what rank to put this in and it might just be too modern looking for current War Thunder.

Specs & Stuff

Since we are going to be using the No Anti-Air missiles refit, I am going to be listing first the post-1988 refit which was made after it caught fire. Anti-air could still be added but maybe as a modification if ever anti-air missiles become more commonplace in naval.

Came across this today. Didnt know Thailand operated the HQ-12 SAM. I assume this operated as part of a battery which is too bad it didnt carry its own radar.

image

Also look at this, we better get the black camo for the Thai Cobra

image

Also Im surprised were not talking more about the FA-50TH. I saw that it was now going to be fitted with GPS Guided Munitions from SK.

image

Also hopefully they decide to adopt this homegrown drone instead of the Norinco ones theyre using now.

Honestly, this is just an excuse to share out this top notch website. Great freaking blog for Thai Military News.

Does anyone know if Thailand ever acquired AGM-65’s at any point?

Thailand also used AGM 65 by using it with the F-16.

Glad to see, I had never seen these pics before and for some reason no sources on the Internet ever stated or made it clear to me if they did

Also, does Thailand have a targeting pod with thermals in their inventory? The Atlis II pod is decent but no thermals would really hold it back

Thailand will be getting AT-6s

Very interesting to see, then it looks like Thailand will be perfect for giving Japan CAS

Does anyone know anything about what equipment the Thai AV-8S had? Like it’s missiles and countermeasures?

Also do we know if Thailand ever used the AGM-65B’s? Would be weird to use the A-7E and F-5E without them as an option

Any Thai SPAA/SAM for 5.0 to 10.0 Br range?

For the most part, pictures of Thai fighter jets appear in local media and those who are interested. In today’s era where social media has started. We will see more of these people in the media. Both through the Air Force itself Both interested groups and the media

If A-7E and F-5E I don’t have a image with AGM-65

I have pictures of the AV-8 armed as follows.

As for Thai SPAAG, I honestly admit that it is underused. Because in Thailand the Static AA Gun is mostly used, but if we want to bring the AA that we have, it consists of the following.

It’s important to note that I’ve never seen evidence of Thailand getting AGM-65B’s l, but they got them for this plane anyway, so in the future the Thai A-7E should also get them

Does anyone know if the radar was upgraded on the FCU F-5? And if so how good is the new radar?

Edit: nvm, no radar changes from what I could see, this website does a good job at breaking down the differences
