Shrapnel she’ll have got to be the most useless shell in war thunder. I have never once seen anyone use one and the only time I used one war in the 2025 April Fools update, but is was WWI themed so… I think the only tanks with shrapnel shells other that the event ones are the Russian tanks. EX: KV-1s, T-28s and some T-34s. So what do you think about these abominous shells?

Because they were designed to shoot against infantry.
They fill the niche of a SAP shell that can be used universally against lightly armored tanks and open vehicles.
In the past it acted like an APHE with short fuse delay, but is obsolete these days due to fuse not exploding on impact.
Also, shrapnel shells make sense even for in game logic because the explosion helps push the shell inwards.

not all are, the AHEAD rounds are good when used properly

To use it properly you have to set a fuze of when the shell will detonate and release the shrapnel, as for tanks like T-28 these have no use in tank versus tank unless you want a challenge. For some reason T-28E has or had Shrapnel and HE as stock ammunition available.
They work good against trucks and halftracks, nothing HE wouldn’t mostly take care of. Slightly better pen than 76mm HE has at close range.
