Should MICA VL be added to the game in addition to SAMP/T?

Recently on the Russian stream it has been acknowledged that the SAMP/T with Aster missiles is being worked on for France and Italy for possibly in a future major as their relative counterparts. It should be noted that while the efforts to create this system for both France and Italy is appreciated, there is still a demand and desire to see the MICA VL added to the game for France as well.

The Aster 30 missile in the SAMP/T has ranges of beyond 100km+. This would create a system that would necessitate a much higher battle rating, whereas the MICA VL would offer two different variations of missiles (MICA IR and MICA EM) with ranges of around 20km maximum. A future system, the MICA NG would offer the same variations of missiles with ranges of around 40km maximum putting it on par with SLM.

The addition of SAMP/T would allow developers to fill the needs of two countries with one system, but France should not have its diversity of systems sacrificed in order to simplify efforts.

It is therefore the opinion of this topic that the addition of SAMP/T with Aster missiles should not overshadow any opportunity to add the MICA VL.

+1. I don’t understand why it’s not coming along the IRIS-T, Spyder, and SLAMRAAM. Especially since its range is in between the SLS and SLM, I think it would have been a fine addition for the Leviathans update

And the MICA VL has many things going for it even if developers might consider that it is underwhelming a bit compared to SLM. The combination of both MICA EM and MICA IR ensures a higher no-escape zone area than SLM alone.

I’m not too well versed on the capabilities but could the Crotale come between the ItO and things like the SAMP/T and MICA VL to fill gaps in the future?

The Crotale there would be inferior to VT1 which recently got bugreported to go from 12km ----> 15km in range, but now that towed SAMs are a thing we can see it added a bit below VT1.

Yes, as well as Skyguard Aspide to Italy.

These are the updates that i don’t understand gaijin wants to add new mechanics but only for select countries to start forcing the others to leave a preferred nation or wait 3 months for them to add it finally #Justice for supacat ASRAAM

it could fill gaps down low maling a sort of progression

  • gun radar AA
  • Mistral 1 carriers (Santal)
  • Roland 1
  • Legacy crotale
  • Mistral 3 carriers (MPCV)
  • Crotale NG (Ito, FVS 987)
  • Crotale Mk3 (the one in french service on a trailer)
  • VL MICA
  • VL MICA NG
  • legacy SAMP/T, Aster-15 variant
  • legacy SAMP/T, Aster-30 variant, Arabel radar (100 or so km of range)
  • SAMP/T renove, Aster-30 B1NT, Ground fire 300 radar (150km of range)

nice, continuous SPAA progression, with very few gaps, and that can even have the luxury to get backups at certain BRs

Unfortunately, didn’t really exist but could replace that with MICA NG VL since that should come soon in service later this year.

The MICA-VL can be added in the future, there’s no rush to add it in the same update

There’s issues with the SAMP/T. Ideally it gets delayed. Developers are under the incorrect assumption that the SAMP/T used Aster-15 which has a range of ~50km comparable to IRIS-T SLM. However, the Aster-15 is only for naval and was never used by SAMP/T. Only Aster-30 was used by SAMP/T. Aster-30 has a range of over 130km. You can see the problem here.

Its still active radar homing with the same defensive strategies.

Big difference between max ballistic range and max effective range.

It is still active radar homing yes, but the kinematics are vastly superior. Kinematics are important to include in this discussion, they can impact gameplay balance as well. SLM with the range of 40km can still be evaded at 20km according to anecdotes of users who claim to have tested against it. However, I’m quite confident no one is looking forward to being launched on by an Aster-30 at the start of the spawn.

Kinematics are more critical for missiles that have to be defeated ballistically, ie, thermal imaging seekers that can’t be flared.

Active radar homing still has defensive options outside of that

Its a little early to be panicking just yet

Then surely it’s fine to add Meteor, PL-15, and R-37M if they come with the typical active radar homing seekers right?

Just because the seekers can be defeated doesn’t mean that the kinematics can’t be problematic.

Those kinds of radar missiles aren’t that crazy any more.

We’ve had the past year or so to learn defensive strategies against active radar homing.

Just being able to fire at super ranges doesn’t always mean killing them at those ranges

If its not already planned for and being worked on for this update, then its highly unlikely they’re going to pull one out of thin air at the last minute anyway

I don’t think either MICA VL or SAMP/T will be showing up anytime soon for this update. MICA VL is moreso for future updates.

Well this is the wrong subforum for talking about future updates

This one’s for the Leviathans update

That is correct, but I was just giving my opinion even though according to some people having watched the Russian devstream, it is possible other systems may come this patch.
