In my opinion, placing the Challenger 3TD at BR 11.7 is a mistake, especially when compared to other British main battle tanks. The Challenger 2E and Black Night are both at 12.0, yet the 3TD is placed lower despite having very similar, if not superior, combat capabilities.
The biggest reason why the Challenger 3TD deserves a higher BR is its firepower. It has access to the same APFSDS rounds as the Leopard 2A7, boasting 652 mm of penetration. This means its firepower is on par with top-tier NATO tanks, yet it sits at 11.7, facing opponents who are generally weaker and often unable to compete effectively.
Some may argue that the Challenger 3TD lacks Spall Liner, which reduces its survivability, but that alone is not a valid reason to keep it at 11.7. Many tanks at 12.0 also lack Spall Liner, yet their BR is not artificially lowered because of it. Additionally, the Challenger 3TD still has solid protection and, in many cases, can survive an initial hit.
Moreover, its mobility and overall performance are not significantly different from the Challenger 2E, which is at 12.0. This creates an imbalance in the British tech tree, where a tank with excellent firepower is placed lower than its older counterparts, which doesn’t make sense.
I believe the Challenger 3TD should be moved to 12.0 to maintain consistency and avoid giving it an unfair advantage.
What do you think? Do you agree that BR 11.7 is incorrect, or do you see a reason for it to stay there?
