So? You want to just seal club subosnic aircraft in a downtier?
“i want to kill late 1940s jets with radar missiles”

your 1950s interceptor vs 1940s fighters is even worse, the alpha jet is also early 70s, not 90s
sounds good until you remember the missiles literally get lost on targets flying straight. they are so bad that a slight turn will defeat them completely, and they won’t even make an attempt to intercept. it’s stat-card OP, but really not good in practicality.
A-10A vs F-106A is what I’m talking about.
So all the other 9.3 should move down too since they all have to face the same uptiered opponent, they all have to fight Mig 21s and F1s, what make u so special?
What makes the F-106 so special is that it’s not really competitive against other 9.3s either IMO. The MiG-19PT for example, gets R-3S, which are at the very least reliable, and it gets good turning and decent energy retention too. The F-106A gets the AIM-4s, which are pretty much gimmick weapons since they bleed speed from mach 3 to 700km/h in less than 3 seconds, and while the Delta Dart does have good speed, it loses so much energy that it cannot dogfight. So the cycle becomes “fly in → one kill with the Vulcan → die to a missile carrier because you couldn’t jink off a 10G missile → requeue”. Which is unfortunate.
9.3 uptier is unfair for everyone but you can beat what you’re talking about by preventing the lock in the first place. F106 has insane performance I always see them so high and far forward at the start of the match it’s definitely possible.
Don’t forget the old friend climbing the hunter f6 cannot climb well compared to you so going high will make you safe from him. Hard focus the good missile bad performance planes at the start of the match when you see them.
If anything in my opinion f106 could possibly be 9.7 but I’ve only test driven it so I can’t really say that
yeah, you might be right. I think I need to train awareness bc every game is an uptier, and I always die to an R-60 up the ass from that damned MiG–21 SPS-K. It could just be my fault, but the fact that I do not see any games in 8.7, ever, is a bit annoying. You used to see a bit more of an even mix of down and up tiers, but at this point the matchups are more like 10.0 than 9.3.
Don’t get me wrong 9.3 uptier is just disgusting unfair and you get it all the time so don’t feel bad it isn’t just you.
It’s because most people buy premiums that are like rank 6 or above so they can research almost the entire tree with it causing you to rarely get downtier.
That’s why I regret buying a 9.3 premium tank.
Maybe you have to learn a lot…
It’s your first rank VI plane and you perform better than in any rank V plane you flew.
So what we are talking about?
did you unironically die to an aim4?
At the moment the F106A lives or dies depending on your aiming skills, since the gun is very good and the plane can go as fast or turn as hard as you tell it to. I actually think it’s BR is a bit too low right now, but the problem is a that a LOT of systems it had historically aren´t implemented properly right now, so until gaijin decides they are worth fixing you have to compensate for it with a very cautious playstyle. I’m assuming you are playing in air realistic battle, so for that particular gamemode my advice would be:
-
Don’t bother with AIM-4F, their guidance is particularly gimped, you won’t win ANY headons with other radar missiles, and at low altitude by the time you get a lock, lead the missile, and are ready to launch 90% of the time you could use the gun instead.
-
AIM-4G turn better but are still pretty slow, don’t bother launching them at anything that’s currently at the same speed or faster than you. The easiest way to get kills with them is to shoot them from above at targets flying relatively slow near the ground (i.e. A10’s, su-25s), since they have less options to dodge and might be distracted by something else. Since they are IR missiles you don’t have to guide them in and put yourself in a dangerous position, and with the hms you don’t even have to turn on the radar to point them at the target. Two video examples:
-
Avoid furballs with lots of planes at all costs, you will get shot at eventually and die. Stay far and stay fast, try to get a kill on any unwitting player or AI, and only rejoin the fight when there are few people remaining and they probably expended all their missiles. Keep in mind that turning on the afterburner turns every rear aspect IR missile potentially aiming at you into an all aspect one.

The F106 turns VERY well, but you have to be really careful in how you fight other planes. Against subsonic planes that have absurd energy retention (ariete, mig 17), your can only win turn fights if they try to engage you at mach 0.9 or above, and you stay above that speed. Against supersonic fighters that are just as fast, you can probably out turn them at very slow speeds, but that´s only practical in 1v1s as that will leave you a sitting duck for other enemies. The real key to using an f106 is to learn out to reverse enemies (forcing the enemy to overtake you and them gun them down before they can escape), but that’s easier said than done…
ive never no. I just should not be fighting a 50s delta interceptor in a meteor

saw combat in the '90s Gulf Wars first no?
yeah this isnt how we determine when vehicles were made
