Scouting need to get nerfed

Please, forget my farm points for event !!! i-i

Ever since Gaijin decided drone scouting isn’t worth as much as normal scouting, you’d know this if you played light vehicles

I play light vehicles. The difference between you and me is I don’t consider ECONOMY NERFS to matter regarding BALANCE. Two different discussions. Also, you got only a single example of scouting being nerfed?

I don’t mean economy nerfs. Scouting with a drone and getting the intelligence award gives you a smaller SP reduction on CAS
Feel free to read

This is so tiny it doesn’t matter. The reason you scout is to tell your entire team where the target is.

Not me, the reason I scout is for cheaper CAS and the nerfs made me avoid using drones

Your personal reasons don’t matter. The main overwhelming reason to scout is to tell your entire team a wallhack real time update of where somebody is. That is what is being discussed in this thread.

You got your answer, Scouting showing you on the map isn’t nearly as bad as someone spawning fnf helis early

Let me help you out buddy.

  1. False anyway

  2. FNF helis exist at a singular battle rating. Scout drones exist as early as 8.3, maybe earlier

What’s a “normal regular scout tank”? The average tank that has scouting isn’t worse than the average tank without it.
Most light tanks are just as good as medium tanks, if not better. Here is a few examples of light tanks that are very similar to specific medium tanks:

  • Char 25t = AMX-50 (TO30/90)
  • Centauro 105 = OF-40
  • Type 16 = Type 74
  • DF105 > Leopard 1
  • Colvis > AMX-30
  • TAM > Leopard a1a1

None of these tanks would lose their role without scouting, it would just make it fairer for their medium counterparts.

Most of the light tanks that cannot be compared to medium counterparts are far from bad as well:

  • Object 906: better than any other 8.0 Russian tank, yet it seems to be in need of a hero shooter mechanic like scouting?
  • 2S38: a slight nerf by removing scouting would probably be something only owners of this tank disagree with.
  • M18: one of the most fun american tanks thanks to its mobility. Definitely does not need scouting to perform.

These are just some examples but it applies to most light tanks: they don’t depend on hero shooter mechanics like scouting in order to work.

Idk what you mean with “deathmatch” but assuming you mean the normal GRB mode, you are wrong.
I don’t recall it exactly but I think scouting got added around 2018 or 2019.

Also has it never been as broken as today:

  1. When it got added, a lot of tanks (Centauro for example) did not have it because they were classified as TDs.
  2. For the longest time since scouting was added, the tanks that could scout suffered from the hull break mechanics. So they actually had a massive disadvantage what made most players prefer medium tanks.
  3. The scouting mechanic used to have a longer cooldown and was harder to handle as well.

A lot of nations don’t have SPAAS at lower high tier than are capable of that. Even some fire and forget missiles don’t work.

Nah, even further. Anyone who has a scout drone deployed just shouldn’t get scouting at all. Players should need to choose between pseudo wallhacks and . . . pseudo wallhacks but for their teammates.

you mean I just use the broken spotting in my ww2/early cold war tank through any obstacle and should get rewarded for it while the drone scout is not? this would feel stupid and the drones will just wont be used(not hard to shoot them down with many vehicles). you rather should get range limit where you stop spotting and the spot shouldnt get the new possition.

Maybe in toptier but in general the most played type of tank in most high tier battles are light tanks.

Depends on how you play. Because of scouting, War Thunder has become a more defensive game where people prefer to camp and not take risks. You cannot take risks anymore because when doing that, scouting drastically increases that risk and you cannot to anything about it.

It happens so many times that some light tanks sits behind cover and keeps effectively nerfing me by scouting me. In these situations I cannot take risks because I will get pushed by several of his teammates.

The issue is that you don’t cosider that sometimes it’s you who is the scouted tank.

The solution is: none of them should be able to scout.

Sounds great.

i agree in the case of drone scouting. scout drones are one of the biggest mistakes gaijin has ever made, made even worse by the addition of seeing the camera while in your tank. this kind of ability would be considered cheating by any pvp game that takes itself seriously.

i dont think light tanks having the normal scouting ability is a problem, though it definitely shouldn’t be able to scout through terrain and buildings.

All SACLOS SAM’s I’ve used so far can kill UAV’s very easily. But OTOMATIC really excells at drone killing. IR SAM’s (Stinger, Mistral) are mostly useless against drones.

i agree but the changes will make light vehicles even more useless but i think it would also stop those gremlins that sit in spawn using recon drones and not doing anything else for the team. at least capture the zone first and then sit on that

They nerfed scouting last year. I was able to scout the entire map in less than 1 minute using a drone, now I get 4 units max.

The scouting mechanic definitely needs a fix. Take the Ground Sim scouting mechanics and find a way to reward players for using them. Perhaps something like this:

  1. Player scouts the target, the red “recon reports enemy spotted” icon pops up (but change the sound to something else please because we’re getting annoyed hearing people spam that - like even just swap that for a single RWR beep or something - easy fix).
  2. One or more targets in a 10-20m area around that mark are now “scouted” but don’t have any additional indicators over their head or anything; just the “enemy spotted” red mark that pops up temporarily. The scout gets their base scouting reward for identifying a target.
  3. If the scouted target or targets die before they move ~50m (adjustable for balance) away from that mark, the scout and the shooter get their usual rewards for assists and intel. This means campers are permanently “scouted” but scouts need to keep marking them anyway to remind the team where targets are in the heat of battle (rather than just returning to re-scout them after the mark expires as it is today). Maybe to handle fast-moving targets, have a 30s window for rewards in addition to the ~50m movement window. Again, no mark over their heads tracking them around the map or anything, but some tanks flying around the map at 117km/h will not yeild rewards without a time window. Make adjustments as necessary for balance, obviously.

Let multiple scouts mark a target and give them rewards. If a camper gets marked 3 times by different scouts they should each get the reward because they all are working to keep the marker on the relevant target for the shooter. This is the replacement for the mark over the scouted target’s head that follows them everywhere; the scouts have to track a target for their team if it moves. It’s more work for the scouts and makes for more interesting gameplay.

Keep the scouting cooldown at 10-15s but don’t punish for a failed scout. If a scout marks a dead tank, they don’t get the scouting reward and obviously there isn’t really a target there so no kill or intel reward will be granted anyway. Bad intel just hurts the team and doesn’t yield rewards. You don’t need to punish scouts for failing if you get rid of today’s current scout marker that follows a player everywhere. They get punished by the base scouting cooldown and wasted time on a non-target. Maybe add a secondary marker so players can easily communicate to the team if they’ve marked something by mistake.

is only okay if this is true :

otherwise its stupid.

I would disagree since I hate cas and the spaa meta ,much more at hightier which enables the fnf spam which is the worst.
then maybe the design in general since one team is most of the dead in like 3-5minutes, but further explaining why is a bit too long here…

Which part do you disagree with?
Poster said ONE of the biggest mistakes…

Your pet-peeve and drone scouting can both be “big mistakes” simulaneously.

I think its by far not the biggest problems wt has rn, its there, but nothing near balancing, gamemode design, cas and the reward system which are just way more broken than the drone spotting mechanic. I see it more as a feature of the gamemode/gameplay design problem.
