Scimitar Strike: Scimitar Mk.2

So its now like that for those who spend time on your game? Thank god you shifted from the fans to whales for unique playstile, how would we live otherwise…

If only
In reality it’s a true reflection of the British defence industry where the company has been sold, renamed, and merged to high heaven.
The company that made the Gen 1 sight - Avimo (British), no longer exists and became part of Thales (France). However, the Avimo sight was based on licensed technology by Hughes (American), which later became part of Raytheon. But some of Raytheon’s thermal imaging business was sold to Leonardo (Italy) so design authority for it might be there nowadays.

Thales can’t actually produce the Gen 1 sight any more because they’re not the design authority for it and whoever is the DA, no longer manufacture the Gen 1 equipment that the Avimo system was based on. IIRC Thales not being design authority for the Gen 1 sight is outlined in the parliamentary proceedings linked in the ticket.
Which is why to build new sights for new built Scimitars, the UK have to have used either the Gen 2 BGTI system (which is used on some Scimitar Mk.1s but looks very different to the sights on Scimitar Mk.2), or the described Gen 3 system where Thales replaced the Hughes/Avimo designed parts with parts from the BGTI system Thales do have design authority over.

Any idea why they think this things equal to the warrior when its just a rarden with no ATGM?

Its true! I ended up with 4-5 accepted reports on the Ajax when it was added lol

some more bug reports

Scimitar 2 tea table should be removable (ACCEPTED)

Thermals should be gen 3 not gen 1

Let’s also hope it stays at 8.3 and not send it to 9.0 if they add it

But could modern fence armor be put to good use? I think it’s great that it can be removed to save weight, but knowing that many countries use it today, it implies that it has a purpose, whereas in the game it’s just extra weight, since it’s practically useless against any post-WW2 HEAT ammunition.

give it all accepted issued changes, and move back 8.0,that we get a ordinary 8.0 light.but now, only a garbage

There is a purpose IRL, its just gaijin is terrible at modelling it for in game purposes which is highly annoying. The blog going “will help vs some early-” is bogus, it wont help against ANY HEAT based weapons on the Scimitar. Even the earliest ATGMs in the game will have zero issue, earliest HEAT guns from WW2, no issue.

Exactly the same issue arises with the STRV 103s bar armour on the front, it was so effective vs HEAT that the Swedes declared its usage classified, in game? Yeah it made things worse/didnt help at all. Having a quick look, seems the fix gaijin implemented on that is fine now. IDK why it cant be applied on other systems.

I mean even if it had an RNG role of just stopping like, 20% of incoming HEAT based attacks it would be something at least. Or at least help vs a BMP1…

NGL, I predict the moment we see a Russian cope cage bar armour is the moment that bar armour actually begins working. Seen that before a few times if memory serves lol.

Thank you, and thank you to everyone else who spends time submitting, collecting, and posting collections of bug reports on the forums here 🙏 I always greatly appreciate your time and efforts 🍻

At 8.3 this seems like it’s D.O.A unless it gets buffed. It seemed really bad in test drive IMO.

BTR82AT had bar armour, but useless too
I think its a technical problem, the correct implementation is when HEAT hit with the gaps between the sticks, rendering it ineffective.
However, obviously, there is no way to implement this feature in the current game, at least no existing content in the game uses a similar mechanism.
Proportionally reducing the effectiveness of HEAT actually produces strange and ineffective results. Even if a vehicle extensively covered in bar armor achieves a 20% reduction, its extreme vulnerability means it would still be damaged.

I dont see any way its going to be viable at the same BR as a gepard

Seems to work fine on the STRV 103C though

Well, it does work against smaller explosive rounds and should at least stop the explosion from HEAT.

Doubt we’ll see many caged scimitars. And if the mk2 is actually going to be 8.3 we ain’t seeing any.

It might be due to the following two points:

  1. It is installed very forward, such that after HEAT is detonated, it needs to continue advancing a very long distance to contact the main armor, more distance means more penetration loss.
  2. Its main armor is strong enough, possessing good anti-HE performance itself, but most light vehicles do not have the same armor.

I believe the Scimitar Mk2 could be up to Br8.7 if it were given more realistic stats, in addition to the APDS-FS ammunition, which exists but isn’t yet officially in service.
The Scimitar Mk2 is lacking functional slat armor, useful composite armor, thermal vision for the driver and third-generation vision for the gunner, reinforced suspension to reduce gun sway during braking or on relatively flat terrain, and a reconnaissance drone. Also, knowing it’s a 2012 vehicle, it’s quite possible that, besides the composite armor that reduces penetration damage, it also has internal fragmentation protection.
